The Toronto Grace Health Centre (TGHC) provides specialized care and services to those individuals who require Complex Continuing Care, Post-Acute Care Rehabilitation, Palliative Care, and Transitional Care. The care and services provided at TGHC help facilitate the patient flow through the health care system and ensures recovery to those individuals who may return to their homes or to Long Term Care (LTC) facilities in their communities. TGHC operates in 3 sites – the Main site (Church & Bloor St), Harbour Lights and a Specialized Care Centre (Victoria Park & McNicoll).

ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES AIDE

Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager of Environmental Services, the Environmental Services Aide performs general and specific duties in assigned areas in accordance with Infection Control policies and procedures to ensure proper controls are maintained for rooms under isolation restrictions. Must maintain an environment that is clean and safe.

Responsibilities

Performs daily cleaning of: nursing stations, patient rooms and washrooms including floors, walls, doors, stairwells and utility room etc.

Follows strict infection control policies and practices to ensure proper controls are maintained for rooms under isolation restrictions

Collects and disposes of garbage, waste and recycling as required

Responsible for processing soiled linen, including transporting, washing and drying, patient personal laundry and moving empty and full laundry carts to designated areas

May be required to work in multiple areas and rotating shifts

Assists with setup for special events

Other environmental services duties as assigned

Qualifications

Secondary school or approved equivalent

Housekeeping experience in Hospital environment or similar is required

Housekeeping Certificate for Healthcare setting an asset

Knowledge of effective floor care machine operation

Ability to lift weights up to fifty (50) lbs

Knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (W.H.M.I.S.)

Knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and other relevant legislation

Highly motivated, compassionate individual with excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Ability to work in a fast-paced physically demanding environment

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

Strong time management skills and excellent attendance record

Demonstrated skills in computer software applications (email, word, excel and intranet)
