The Toronto Grace Health Centre (TGHC) provides specialized care and services to those individuals who require Complex Continuing Care, Post-Acute Care Rehabilitation, Palliative Care, and Transitional Care. The care and services provided at TGHC help facilitate the patient flow through the health care system and ensures recovery to those individuals who may return to their homes or to Long Term Care (LTC) facilities in their communities.

Travel to main and satellite sites will be required.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Health and Safety Advisor at TGHC plays a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of patients, staff, and visitors within the hospital environment. Reporting to the Chief of Human Resources, the Health and Safety Advisor oversees the implementation and maintenance of comprehensive safety protocols and procedures in alignment with the hospital's mission to provide safe and compassionate care for all. You will make a difference to the health and safety of all staff, visitors, and our patients.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for overseeing day-to-day work activities to ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act

Advance knowledge of Ontario Regulation 67/93 Health Care and Residential Facilities

JHSC certified.

Ability to accompany a Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development Inspector on hospital inspections on both sites.

Proficient knowledge of ergonomic assessments and manual materials handling

Knowledge and understanding of general ventilation systems and local exhaust ventilation.

Knowledge and the ability to lead safety talks, instruct employees on LOTO (lock out tag out) procedures.

Ability to complete WSIB form 7 with an employee.

Knowledge and understating on refusal of unsafe work.

participate in joint labor-management safety committees or other forums where labor relations issues are discussed and addressed.

Ability to assess, address and maintain employee’s health and safety complaints.

Knowledge on confined space entry and confined space entry permits, polices, and procedures.

Monitor health and safety performance across both sites.

Performing hazard and risk assessments

Data collection and analysis

Maintaining and updating MSDS and SDS

Proficient in conducting N95 mask fittings.

Develop, review, and update safety policies, procedures, and protocols to comply with regulatory standards and best practices.

Implement safety protocols across all hospital departments, ensuring alignment with the unique needs of patients receiving specialized care.

Provide training sessions and educational programs to hospital staff on safety protocols, emergency response procedures, and infection control measures.

Ensure staff members are adequately trained to handle emergencies and adhere to safety guidelines.

Participate in investigations into safety incidents, accidents, and near misses, analyzing root causes and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

Participate in maintain accurate records of safety incidents and prepare reports for hospital management and regulatory agencies as required.

Collaborate with regulatory agencies during inspections and audits, addressing any findings or recommendations promptly.

Develop and maintain emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures, disaster preparedness, and response protocols.

Conduct regular drills and exercises to test the effectiveness of emergency plans and identify areas for improvement.

Advance knowledge of computer software including (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)

Ability to create graphs, risk matrix, priority matrix in order to continuously improve health and safety of employees.

Ability to work well under pressure and act in good faith.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety (BASc) or Bachelor of Engineering in Science (BEng) preferred.

Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST) designation.

Minimum 5 years in a health and safety related role is required.

Previous experience as a Health and Safety Officer or Health and Safety Coordinator is preferred.

Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements, and best practices in healthcare safety.

Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and effectively multitask.

Ability to coordinate, and use problem solving skills.
