Lab Technologist Chemistry Labs (Job ID: 7770)
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Temporary position to help validate chemistry instrumentation
- Assists the Lab technical specialist and reports to the Manager in Chemistry
- Ensure the validation program meets regulatory requirements i.e. IQMH and hospital accreditation standards
- Monitors, reviews and analyzes daily, weekly and monthly QC and EQA/PT to validation protocol as required.
- Investigation, troubleshooting and root cause analysis of operational and quality issues pertaining to CHEMISTRY
- Provides education, training, certification and consultation, and technical support to CHEMISTRY team.
- Participates in the development, monitoring and maintains electronic interfaces between new BIOCHEMISTRY instrumentation and the information systems of the hospital
- Evaluates and implements BIOCHEMISTRY instrumentation
- Monitors the utilization of BIOCHEMISTRY reagents & supplies during the validation process.
- Preparing and selecting samples for validation of the instrument.
- Support daily operations
- Performs related duties as required
- As part of a team, performs pre-analytical, analytical and post analytical functions in routine Chemistry, special Chemistry, and Toxicology.
- Prioritizes validation workload and ensures work, are completed in the required time frame.
- Identifies abnormalities in test results and takes appropriate action; if necessary to seek advice from appropriate resources.
- Reports and documents unexpected or non-conforming events/incidents.
- Prepares, authorizes and interprets laboratory results.
- Responds to all inquiries regarding specimen collection, results and interpretation.
- Performs routine and preventative maintenance, calibration and troubleshooting on laboratory instruments.
- Follows SOPs and validation protocols in the completion of all duties.
- Adheres to all elements of the quality program including testing appropriate QC samples, performing QA activities and assessing results.
- Participates in the development and maintenance of the quality management system by writing/updating SOPS.
- Liaises with internal and external customers.
- Adheres to the laboratory safety program.
- Participates in material management, inventory management, safety management, performance management and quality assurance.
- Participates in the training of technologists, laboratory students, medical students and residents.
- Other duties, as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be registered with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO) and possess a current CMLTO registration certificate with Chemistry discipline.
- Must have recent experience in Bio-Chemistry (within the last two years).
- Must be proficient in computer software applications (ie. Microsoft Office).
- Must demonstrate ability to work independently and prioritize workload in a fast paced environment.
- Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Must be committed and able to work cooperatively and constructively with other team members
- Must understand and be committed to the Hospital mission and values.
- Must be punctual and have an excellent attendance record.
- Experience in quality principles, teaching, research/development systems are an asset
- Advanced Registered Technologist certification or equivalent preferred
- Bachelor of Science degree preferred
- Experience in quality principles, teaching, research/development are an asset
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing education is an asset
- Recent experience in CHEMISTRY & strong knowledge of quality management
- Demonstrated knowledge, experience and application of BIOCHEMISTRY middleware
- Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office and statistical software
- Demonstrated competence in organization, planning, and project management skills
- Must be a team player able to work cooperatively with BIOCHEMISTRY clients and strong customer-service orientation
- Must possess strong interpersonal, communication and writing skills
- Must demonstrate competence in problem-solving and decision-making
- Must be committed to the Hospital's mission and values
- Must have an excellent attendance record
HOURS OF WORK: Must be willing and able to work all shifts on days, evening, nights, weekends and statutory holidays. Shifts are subject to change as per departmental needs.
