Performs a wide range of tests on various materials using chemicals and scientific apparatus in accordance with ASTMs and other relevant standards as required. Records technical data, and draft reports. Performs mathematical calculations required to summarize test results as applicable. Relates test results to product specifications. Acts as a liaison with other departments as required by the Lab Manager.
Responsibilities:
Maintains good housekeeping, taking care of safety and using PPE at all times as outlined in the Job Safety Analysis (JSA).
Supports Conformity Testing and general material acceptance testing for CSA certification globally. Working on multiple projects concurrently.
Utilize ASTM and other test standards/methods as required
Performs testing using a variety of chemicals in accordance with ASTMs
Tests include but are not limited to; FTIR Testing, Flame Testing, Compression Testing, Volume Testing, and Stress Testing.
Conducts a wide range of test procedures on equipment to the applicable standards and interprets the results of the test. Determines and reviews which tests are required; the order in which to perform tests and the number of samples required.
Performs tests and calculations, compiles data and summarizes test results into test reports and checklists. Verifies calculations are consistent with the results of measurements. Determines whether a product passes or fails subject to review by Certifier/Reviewer.
Assembles and disassembles test samples, hooks-up laboratory test equipment in preparation for testing; operates most laboratory test equipment without supervision.
Maintains good housekeeping of tools, equipment and work area following tests and carry out assigned laboratory clean-up duties
Knowledge on how to operate test equipment in a safe manner.
Records technical data, draft reports. Performs mathematical calculations required to summarize test results as applicable.
Relates test results to product specifications. Acts as a liaison with other departments as required by Lab Manager. Notes and records discrepancies or characteristics of products which may appear before or during the tests and refer them to Sr. Lab Tech, Certifier or Manager.
Independently analyzes complex devices and equipment to determine compliance to applicable requirements.
Contributes to the development and implementation of requirements for new and/or revised standards as required.
Interacts with the Certifier to plan activities, exchange information, review and approve lab reports and certification records.
Reviews work orders for accuracy.
Performs witness testing as required by Lab Tech III or Manager.
Knowledge on how to operate test equipment in a safe manner.
Performs other duties as assigned by manager.
Conducts Technical Audits for both Safety & EEV.
Communicates with clients regarding project details.
Education and Experience:
3-year Technical Certificate or equivalent education and experience or
Associate's degree in engineering technology or
Degree in Chemistry
Professional Membership eg. ASTT, OACETT or equivalent
5-8 years of related experience
