Job Summary

As an integral member of Pharmacy Services, the Pharmacy Manager III is responsible for maintaining and managing responsibility for the daily operations (including the effective and efficient delivery of exemplary patient-centred care in all matters related to medications including drug distribution in an environment that supports teaching and research) for the assigned sites in collaboration with departmental objectives, including performing operational and administrative responsibilities to ensure efficient and effective functioning of Pharmacy services within scope of departmental objectives; hiring, firing, supervising, and discipline of assigned site specific staff; supervising finance related activities to ensure an efficient and effective financial operation; coordinating professional development of assigned staff to ensure excellence in the provision of pharmacy services; performing cross-functional responsibilities, as required; performing other duties and responsibilities consistent with the job classification.

Duties

• Supports inventory control in the site dispensary to ensure proper patient care and responsible inventory management.
• Coordinates and integrates all activities in responsible areas with other pharmacy services, ensuring optimal deployment of staff and functions;
• Develops, reviews and revises policies and procedures related to operations; ensures that policies and procedures are coordinated and integrated across sites as appropriate and with clinical services.
• Collaborates in the development of departmental goals and objectives; aligns programs, projects and activities of the site to facilitate achievement of established goals.
• Maintains financial accountability of operations by adhering to staff budgets; maintains accountability for the proper allocation of payroll and other expenses for site.
• Participates in hospital planning for expansion, new program and changes, as required.
• Complies and submits data on reimbursable drugs to the Ministry of Health and other agencies (e.g. CCO), as assigned.
• Maintains responsibility for interviewing, hiring, disciplining and dismissing of assigned staff, in conjunction with appropriate departmental and Human Resources personnel; ensuring compliance with applicable collective agreements, Human Rights, Employment Standards and other legislated requirements; participating in grievance/ arbitration matters as required.
• Ensures the continuing education and ongoing professional and personal skills development of assigned staff,
• Maintains personal and professional development; participates as an active member on committees

• Completion of a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from a recognized program of study Four (4) years managerial experience in a hospital pharmacy.
  Certificate of competency from the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada required.
• Active registration with the Ontario College of Pharmacists required.
• Experience budgeting and planning required.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
• Excellent interpersonal skills required.
• Current knowledge of Pharmaceutical advances and changes required.
• Knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System requirements, Body Substance Precautions, confidentiality, etc. required.
• Knowledge of, Hospital policies, procedures & protocols required.
• Knowledge of applicable legislation (e.g. Health Professions Regulations Act, Employment Standards Act, etc.) required.
