The Manager of Imaging Support leads technical and operational support for UHN's diagnostic imaging fleet across UHN Medical Imaging, Women's College Hospital and Sinai Health. This role combines operational leadership, research and development, and strategic planning to optimize imaging capabilities while building novel approaches to capacity and resource challenges. The position requires strong collaboration with colleagues in UHN Medical Imaging, Medical Physics, Radiation Medicine, and clinical programs to ensure integrated technology management and development.

Technical & Operational Management

  • Lead QA/QC programs across applicable UHN imaging assets with standardized protocols
  • Manage a team of service technologists and clinical engineers to drive performance metrics
  • Implement proactive maintenance strategies and uptime monitoring
  • Guide technical aspects of facility planning and development
  • Support radiation safety requirements across imaging installations
  • Benchmark service and performance against provincial/national standards

Resource & Financial Leadership

  • Develop blended funding strategies combining clinical, research, and grant sources
  • Lead UHN-based maintenance insurance (CMEPP) and service contracts
  • Create sustainable funding models for technology refresh cycles
  • Lead strategic funding initiatives by coordinating clinical, research, and philanthropic opportunities through UHN Foundation, academic infrastructure grants (FedDev, CFI), and shared resource models to enable net new equipment acquisition.

Strategic Planning & Integration

  • Support short-term and long-term capital planning for imaging fleet replacement and expansion
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives including development of new facilities and operations at UHN (proton therapy planning, MRgRT, etc.)
  • Support RFP development and technical evaluation processes
  • Develop standardized approaches across UHN Medical Imaging, Women's College Hospital and Sinai Health
  • Support capacity expansion through evidence-based implementation
  • Create sustainable growth models aligned with UHN strategic objectives

Research & Academic Leadership

  • Opportunity to develop a research program within Biomedical Engineering, with mentorship and support provided
  • Leverage academic partnerships for novel capacity solutions through technical validation studies and optimization protocols
  • Develop industry partnerships for early technology access and pilot programs
  • Support technical evaluation of next-generation imaging systems
  • Lead research initiatives between Medical Physics, Medical Imaging and Radiation Medicine programs

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (MSc, MASc, or PhD) in Medical Physics, Biomedical Engineering or related field; candidates with equivalent experience and relevant expertise will also be considered
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or the ability to obtain licensure is required
  • CCPM certification in Diagnostic Radiological Physics is an asset; candidates with the ability and willingness to achieve certification will be considered
  • Eligibility for PI status at UHN and cross-appointment at the University of Toronto, or commitment to develop qualifications to achieve this status
  • In-depth technical knowledge of medical imaging modalities: computed tomography (CT), X-ray based modalities (radiography, fluoroscopy, mammography, dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry), molecular imaging (PET, PET/CT, PET/MR), and advanced hybrid imaging technologies. Familiarity with image reconstruction techniques, radiation physics, quantitative imaging methods, and emerging technological developments in medical imaging.
  • Experience in medical imaging operations and equipment lifecycle management or demonstrated capability to develop expertise in these areas
  • Interest in research development and academic collaboration, building a research portfolio over time
  • Demonstrated success in team leadership and project management
  • Experience with equipment life-cycle management, capital planning and budget management
  • Excellence in cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management
