University Health Network (UHN), Collaborative Academic Practice is looking for an Manager of Professional Practice at their Toronto Western Hospital Site.

University Health Network (UHN), Toronto Western Hospital (TWH) Site is looking for an experienced professional to fill the key role of Manager of Professional Practice in our Collaborative Academic Practice (CAP) portfolio within the Krembil Brain Institute (KBI), Medical-Surgical Neuro ICU (MSNICU), the Centre for Mental Health at TWH and TGH, and the Family Health Team.

Reporting to the Director of Professional Practice (DPP), the Manager of Professional Practice (MPP), a member of the UHN Collaborative Academic Practice (CAP) portfolio, is accountable for academic clinical practice in alignment to UHN's Purpose, Values and Principles and is key in aligning work within and across clinical programs, sites and organizational practice priorities. The role focuses on the integration of care, patient safety and quality; use of technology to enable care, teaching and research. This position serves to develop and motivate a cohesive team and assist in identifying and supporting educational strategies to enhance staff knowledge with respect to professional practice and patient care

The MPP partners with the DPP to develop and implement provisions of care, organization-wide healthcare delivery models which advances University Health Network's (UHN)'s foundational value of Patient-Centred Care and its mission of providing exemplary safe patient care and fostering excellence in healthcare delivery, research and teaching.

Qualifications

  • Completion of Master's Degree required; Masters Degree in Nursing, Health Administration, or Health Profession
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario or other regulated health profession in good standing
  • A minimum of three (3) years in clinical leadership role
  • A minimum of Five (5) to eight (8) years related clinical experience in Acute Care; Critical Care and Stepdown, and neuroscience. Experience in Mental health and sound knowledge of the mental health act also preferred.
  • Qualifies for cross-appointment with the University of Toronto or other UHN affiliated Colleges and Universities
  • Excellent knowledge of the Regulated Health Professions Act, standards of professional practice, codes of ethics, health care consent act and ethical implications of care delivery
  • Broad knowledge of overall hospital structure, operating policies and decision making processes. Sound understanding of health care system, related issues and trends, policies and legislation provincially, nationally and internationally
  • Experience in developing, implementing and maintaining professional practice standards and quality control measures in a health care environment required
  • Experience with project management, quality improvement and implementation of change initiatives - preferred
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, and decision- making skills with demonstrated ability to think strategically at a health systems and organizational level, as well as at the site and programmatic level
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse management and employee groups and individuals
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in new environments, adapt, implement and manage changes and facilitate its acceptance by others
  • Sound understanding of and ability to integrate new Ability to and culturally sensitive situations
  • Ability to meet multiple and competing deadlines
  • Interprets, communicates and disseminates research findings to support patient care and recommends evidence-based policy and practice changes
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills. Comfortable with use of technology; knowledge of computer systems and software applications
