Position Summary

The Manager, Support Services leads the Environmental Services, Patient Transportation, and Linen/Laundry team at the Toronto Rehab sites (TR-Bickle Centre, TR-University Centre, TR-Lyndhurst, and TR-Rumsey) and Hillcrest Centre. The Manager is a people-focused leader who ensures high quality service in line with UHN's strategic goals and our primary value that, above all else, the needs of the patient come first. This role is responsible for maintaining health, safety, and infection control standards, overseeing the cleaning of patient care and public spaces, providing exception customer service, and leading quality improvement and staff development initiatives. The Manager actively participates in staff and supervisor engagement, cross-functional projects, and organization-wide events to further UHN's mission and goals.

Primary Duties

  • Oversees Environmental Services, Transportation, Laundry & Linen across all TRI sites, ensuring 24/7 standards. Develops goals, aligns with UHN strategy, and ensures adequate resources and compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Works with other leaders on projects, moves, and renovations; ensures smooth service integration with minimal disruption.
  • Manages recruitment, supervision, training, and performance for 4 FT supervisors and over 100 unionized staff, fostering a productive environment and ensuring alignment with collective agreements. Promotes positive employee relations and addresses any workplace concerns as they arise.
  • Maintains and implements quality initiatives, ensuring adherence to UHN and regulatory standards, and addresses safety, compliance, and incident follow-ups.
  • Develops and monitors budgets, approves expenditures, manages payroll, and advocates for necessary staffing/equipment resources.
  • Develops and monitors short- and long-term plans, aligns departmental operations with UHN's goals, and adapts to changing priorities and trends.
  • Participates in UHN committees, events, and leadership forums; fosters professional relationships across departments.
  • Ensures compliance with health and safety regulations, addresses hazards, and promotes a safe work environment.

Qualifications

  • Client service-oriented, with the ability to work effectively with diverse groups and appreciate that differing opinions, backgrounds, and characteristics enhance the richness of any challenge or situation.
  • 5-7 years of relevant work experience leading large, diverse groups of unionized support teams required. Experience leading teams across multiple sites is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of EPIC Logistics for Environmental Services and Patient Transportation or similar support services electronic task management software system preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of PIDAC Best Practices and IPAC protocols to prevent infection transmission.
  • Experience with Environmental Services quality audit protocols and expertise leading a team to achieve consistent standards of cleanliness and through adherence to standard operating procedures.
  • Strong change management, leadership, and motivational skills.
  • Effective organizational and communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with stakeholders.
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of software.
  • Ability to lead in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to exercise initiative, good judgment, and multitask effectively.
  • Ability to work under pressure and attend to details.
  • Completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Commerce, Business Administration, or recognized equivalent preferred.
  • At minimum, completion of a 2-year community college certificate is required.
  • Completion of the 2-year community college program Healthcare Environmental Services Management (HESM) program or successful completion of the CHHA Healthcare Leadership Program within first year in role is required.
