We seek a dedicated and capable MRI Technologist Assistant (TA) on a casual basis.

The TA acts as an unregulated healthcare provider who practices under the direct supervision, guidance, and oversight of Medical Imaging Management and regulated healthcare professionals (i.e., Radiologists, Medical Radiation Technologists (MRTs), and Registered Nurses (RNs)).

As an integral member of the MRI Team, the incumbent will perform a wide range of patient care and workflow duties, providing support for patients, patient care partners, and technologists. They must use professional and ethical judgment and critical thinking when performing all duties and remain sensitive to patients' physical and emotional needs by applying communication, patient monitoring, and patient care skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Some of the TA's responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

    • Supporting MRTs in their area of practice for activities such as coordinating exam times for in-patients and Emergency Department requests, communicating necessary preparations to the floor nurse, verifying bloodwork, organizing porters, and transferring patients from one area to another within Medical Imaging.
    • Providing non-clinical support by prepping and cleaning scan rooms, maintaining supplies, restocking linen, scanning documents, etc.
    • Answer the phones, respond appropriately, and escalate questions/concerns/requests to the technologists as required.
    • Work collaboratively with regulated and unregulated healthcare professionals.

    · Ability to provide portering and transportation services for patients and supplies.

    · Assist with patient transfers, positioning, and repositioning (e.g., stretcher, imaging bed, and wheelchair) and transporting patients to and from entrances/exits.

    • Facilitate patient navigation of change rooms, belongings, gowns, lockers, etc.
    • Assist staff with equipment quality control tests, equipment sanitization, and linen management.
    • Liaises with appropriate members of the care team to identify and communicate patient care needs (e.g., patient comfort, wellness, and safety factors).
    • Order supplies electronically, consulting with medical and administrative staff as necessary.
    • Follows hospital protocols to assist with setting up sterile procedure trays.
    • Follows hospital protocols to discard sharps and clean/disinfect used procedure trays safely.
    • Other duties as assigned to support the care team.

    Accountabilities:

    • Booking in-patients and Emergency patients for scans, giving appointments and portering times to floors.
    • Preparing patients for scans, including assisting patients in completing forms or questionnaires.
    • Must have an understanding of exams performed in the area.
    • Collecting patient history.
    • Answering phones and tending to requests of floors/physicians.
    • Identifying and escalating urgent requests, plus organizing ED/Trauma scans.
    • Preparing rooms with appropriate equipment and supplies.
    • Cleaning rooms and equipment post-exam.

    Qualifications:

    • Candidates must be graduates of a Canadian or international medical radiation technology or radiation sciences program, or be an internationally trained physician or other relevant regulated healthcare provider familiar with medical imaging equipment/systems and scans.
    • Preference will be given to current medical radiation technology students enrolled in Radiological Technology (Y3), Nuclear Medicine (Y3), Ultrasound (Y2), or MRI (Y1 and Y2); MRI strongly preferred.
    • Candidates must have relevant clinical patient care experience in a hospital environment.
    • A medical terminology certificate, diploma, or degree an asset.
    • Computer skills are an asset.
