Medical Lab Technologist Laboratory - Chemistry (Job ID: 9645)
Key Responsibilities:
- As a part of a Core Laboratory team, perform routine and specialized testing in Biochemistry, Hematology, Transfusion Medicine, and Immunology following established protocols.
- Rotate through all workstations as required and complete other assigned duties as directed by the Operations Leader/Technical Specialist.
- Prioritize workload effectively to meet required turnaround times, ensuring prompt processing of STAT and routine samples.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and escalate abnormal test results as needed, consulting with appropriate resources when necessary.
- Accurately document and report unexpected or non-conforming events/incidents.
- Validate and interpret laboratory results while ensuring accuracy and quality.
- Respond to inquiries regarding specimen collection, test results, and interpretation.
- Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting on laboratory instruments to ensure optimal performance.
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and adhere to all elements of the quality management system, including:
- Performing and assessing quality control (QC) samples.
- Conducting quality assurance (QA) activities.
- Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Participate in the development and maintenance of SOPs to align with best practices and regulatory standards.
- Ensure compliance with the laboratory safety program and all workplace health and safety guidelines.
- Manage inventory, materials, and supplies to ensure seamless lab operations.
- Provide training and mentorship to new technologists, laboratory students, medical students, and residents.
- Engage in technical research, test development, validation activities, and continuing education.
- Foster positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support collaborative patient care.
- Perform other duties as required to meet operational needs.
Qualifications:
- Must be registered with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO) and hold a current CMLTO registration certificate.
- Recent experience in Biochemistry/Hematology/ Transfusion Medicine (within the last two years) is required.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and laboratory information systems (LIS).
- Ability to work independently while effectively managing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a commitment to teamwork and collaboration.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail to ensure accuracy and quality in test results.
- Demonstrated commitment to the hospital's mission, values, and patient-centered care.
- Excellent punctuality and attendance record.
- Experience in quality management, teaching, research, or test development is an asset.
Hours:
- Must be available to work all shifts, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and statutory holidays
