Medical Technical Specialist - Diagnostic Labs Molecular (Job ID: 7776)

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborating with our Technical, Medical Scientific, and Quality and Regulatory teams to develop, validate, troubleshoot and implement methodologies, platforms and molecular tests for clinical service
  • Leading and assisting with the design and development of new tests to meet operational initiatives and optimize current tests to standardize testing workflows
  • Leading and assisting with validation of new tests on realtime PCR, NGS and cytogenetics platforms
  • Supporting on-going process improvements and problem solving efforts in work organization, test methodologies and lab workflows
  • Performing data analysis required with test development and validation
  • Completing validation documentation and operating procedures for new tests prior to implementation
  • Conducting a wide range of molecular diagnostic and interpretive specimen testing
  • Performing, interpreting and releasing results, while ensuring patient confidentiality
  • Participating in critical reviews of key indicators, incidents, audits, inspection and improvement opportunities resulting in effective implementation of corrective actions, escalating as appropriate and driving continuous improvement
  • Training and teaching MLTs in advanced molecular genetics techniques
  • Quality control and quality assurance monitoring in a Clinical Molecular laboratory setting

Minimum requirements and experience

  • Undergraduate University degree in Molecular Biology or equivalent required
  • Medical Laboratory Technology diploma
  • Active CMLTO registration required
  • 5 years of MLT experience, including 3 years of NGS experience required
  • Theoretical and hands-on experience of advanced molecular techniques including NGS
  • Experience with variety of molecular platforms and technical methodologies
  • Experience with quality control and quality assurance monitoring in a Clinical laboratory setting
  • Experience with test design, development, and results interpretation
  • Experience with test and instrument validation
  • Experience with test transfer from development to clinical service
  • Clear understanding of detailed documentation and comprehensive record keeping
  • Excellent problem solving skills; ability to identify and effectively troubleshoot issues
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to maintain and promote strict standards of safety, patient privacy and confidentiality
  • Advanced computational and bioinformatics skills desired
