Job Description

Department: Neurophysiology Lab - KBI
Work Model: On-Site
Reports to: Manager
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Salary: $36.38 - $45.48 per hour (To commensurate with experience and consistent with UHN compensation policy)
Shifts: Days- 0800-1600, 0730-1930, Weekends
Status: Temporary Full-Time (Contract End Date September 12, 2025)
Closing Date: December 5th, 2024

Position Summary

As an integral member of the Clinical Neurophysiology Department, the Neurophysiology Technologist works at multiple sites, primarily at Toronto Western Hospital.

Duties

  • Utilizing knowledge of anatomy and physiology to perform Electroencephalogram/Magnetoencephalography (EEG, MEG & EMG) and other special electrodiagnostic procedures in an out/inpatients environment, as per established standards
  • Operating, troubleshooting and ensuring equipment is performing in an effective and efficient manner
  • Preparing electronic and written reports required to document all procedures and test results
  • Participating in teaching, training and other educational activities
  • Performing other related patient care responsibilities to facilitate the provision of optimal patient care
  • Observing and understanding Hospital and departmental policies and procedures
  • Adhering to Hospital and departmental mission and value statements while maintaining patient confidentiality
  • Performing cross-functional responsibilities as assigned and/or required

Qualifications

  • At minimum, completion of an undergraduate degree program Bachelors of Science or recognized equivalent (Biology, Kinesiology, Neuroscience etc.)
  • Three to Five years practical and related experience.
  • Registration with the Canadian Board of Registered EEG Technologist (CBRET) or American Electrodiagnostic Technologist (ASET) preferred
  • Membership with the Canadian Association of Electrodiagnostic Technologist (CAET) preferred.
  • Must know how to use 10/20 measuring system.
  • Must know how to do impedance check.
  • Must understand/know electrical safety standards.
  • Must know who to analyze EEG recordings.
  • Must know how to perform visual recognition of seizure activity.
  • Required to multitask, e.g., flagging seizure activity on one patient whilst still monitoring 9 others.
  • Strong decision making skills to identify which cases warrant RN or MD intervention.
  • EMG and Nerve Conduction studies an asset.
  • Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance to UHN standards
  • Exercise initiative and good judgement with ability to multi-task
  • Effective organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Knowledge of applicable legislative, UHN and/or departmental policies
