Job Description

Department: KBI - Deep Brain Stimulation Clinic
Reports to: Clinical Director
Work Model: On-Site
Grade: F0:05
Hours: 37.5 hours per week 8:00am to 4:00pm
Salary: $51.54 - $64.43 (to commensurate with experience and consistent with UHN compensation policy)
Shifts: Monday-Friday (Days)
Status: Temporary Full-Time (12 month contract)
Closing Date: February 3, 2025

Position Summary


The Nurse Practitioner (NP), having a specialty-based focus, functions in an expanded nursing role demonstrating a high level of autonomy and expert skill to formulate clinical decisions and appropriately manage patients in the Deep Brain Stimulation Clinic.

Duties


The principal responsibilities include utilizing and demonstrating a comprehensive theoretical knowledge base and advanced level of clinical competence in caring for patients with Movement Disorders involving:

  • collecting and interpreting data about the health of the patient;
  • determining a medical diagnosis and treating complex responses of individuals and families to actual or potential problems;
  • helping adjust neuromodulation settings and supporting patients in managing symptoms and impacts of their movement disorder and neuromodulation
  • delivering and coordinating patient and family education
  • acting as a resource and serving as a consultant to individuals and groups within the professional community and other hospital/agencies

The NP will :

  • provide leadership in identifying opportunities for improving patient care
  • provide support, guidance and facilitate the development of knowledge in nursing staff involved in this population of patients.
  • play a leadership role and performing quality improvement and administrative responsibilities;
  • participate in education and professional development activities/programs;
  • perform activities to further develop and strengthen the profession;
  • perform other duties consistent with the job classification, as required.

Qualifications

  • Completion of master's degree Program in Nursing
  • College of Nurses of Ontario Registration in the Extended Class (EC) as a NP adult (preferred) or NP Primary Health Care
  • Demonstrated expertise as a Nurse Practitioner preferred
  • Current Certificate of Competence with College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Five years Neuroscience nursing experience preferred
  • Canadian Nursing Association Neuroscience Nursing Certification preferred
  • Experience in nursing research methodology
  • Eligible for cross-appointment to an academic institution
  • Membership in the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) and Nurse Practitioners' Association of Ontario (NPAO)
  • Advanced nursing assessment skills and sound knowledge of clinical therapeutics/interventions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Effective interpersonal and customer services skills
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Excellent decision making, problem recognition and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Program planning and evaluation methodology skills
  • Commitment to collaborative practice
  • Ability to work effectively independently, in a self-directed manner and managing many competing demands
  • Capacity to adapt quickly to a fast paced, dynamic work environment
  • Familiar and comfortable with technology-assisted healthcare delivery, specifically video conferencing using MS teams, OTN, etc.
  • Digital communication skills, technology literacy and usage skills preferred
