Position Summary:
Reporting to the Manager, MDRD, the Supervisor, MDRD, plans, organizes and supervises the shift operations within the department.
This includes decontamination, sterilization, assembly/preparation, storage and distribution of reusable medical/surgical instruments, equipment and materials; case cart preparation; equipment and inventory control in compliance with hospital policies and procedures, as well as regulatory requirements.
Responsible for the continuing education, training, supervision competency assessment, and evaluation of staff in regards to policies and procedures, infection control, safety, WHMIS, quality management, new supplies, equipment and technologies.
Attends meetings, committees and other working groups as required.
Preparing, monitoring and adjusting work schedules, assignments and vacations; as well as inputting payroll.
Responsible for other departmental functions as required.
Qualifications:
Graduate of a recognized Medical Device Reprocessing course at a college level, or equivalent education and skills.
Sterile Processing certificate from an approved Community College.
At least 1 year of related supervisory experience, preferably in a healthcare setting.
At least 5 years of MDRD Assistant experience.
Membership in MDRD professional organization(s) (e.g. MDRAO, CAMDR, IAHCSMM)
Evidence of effective leadership skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Evidence of excellent organizational skills and inventory control experience considered an asset.
Education development and delivery experience preferred.
Computer proficiency required, including beginner level skills in MS Word and Excel.
