Job Summary

At the Toronto Zoo, we serve over 1.3 million visitors per year! We have 19 restaurants, bars, ice cream kiosks and snack sheds. We cater to large scale events and are one of Toronto's top local leisure and tourist attraction!

As an Operations Manager, you will be responsible for providing overall planning, direction and control to assigned food service units. You will achieve operational and financial goals. You will provide guidance and motivation to subordinate unit managers and their teams, as well as ensure effective guest/client rapport is maintained.

Now, if you were to come on board as one of our Operations Manager, we'd ask you to do the following for us:

  • Conduct operation audits and design improvements to optimize financial performance and operational productivity.
  • Audit units to ensure conformance with our standards, regulations and codes regarding food storage, preparation, sanitation, and record keeping.
  • Ensure adherence to company sponsored retailing and purchasing programs.
  • Observe typical meal service when visiting units; evaluate food for taste, temperature, appearance, and portion size; investigate complaints regarding unit operation and effect satisfaction solutions.
  • Monitor and review weekly profit & loss to ensure that financial performance meets the forecasts and budgets.
  • Ensure consistent and equitable administration of human resources policies, procedures, and guidelines to facilitate effective employee relations and support the preferred employer focus; audit performance appraisals and associates files; monitor Diversity action plans.
  • Provide guidance to team to ensure strong lines of communication amongst management and associates.
  • Responsible for inventory management, mentor and development, employment scheduling, and recruiting.
  • Liaison with AGCO, Toronto Public Health, and third party auditors and regulatory agencies
  • Coach and empower team members during service hours so they are able to offer world class service to our guests
  • Work with the culinary and marketing teams to promote and execute monthly & seasonal themed menus and promotions

  • 5 years of related food service management experience in an attractions or events based environment an asset.
  • Experience in a contract food service account would be an asset
  • Experience with mobile ordering apps an asset
  • Leadership experience in a high-volume food service environment
  • Must be able to work extended shifts of 10 hours or more as business dictates.
  • Must be able to work under pressure and handle multiple priorities at any given time
  • Must be flexible with schedule and able to work different shifts
  • Have a proactive approach to the business and day to day & future needs
  • This role will require you to reach, lift, stoop, bend and perform extensive standing and walking on the premise.
  • Proven financial management skills including ability to control product and labour costs.
  • Strong motivator, mentor and leader. Able to communicate effectively with management team, team members and guests.
  • Very detail-oriented individual and a strong team player.
  • Superior client relationship and client response and satisfaction skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Can accommodate a flexible work schedule
  • Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office.
