Physiotherapist 2L Medicine (Job ID: 6898)

Seeking a Physiotherapist with excellent communication, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills who is comfortable working in a high-pressure environment as part of an interprofessional team. Reporting to the Patient Care Manager 2L General Medicine and Stroke Unit, you will work as a part of a dedicated, interprofessional team, focusing on providing assessment and treatment for acute general medicine and stroke patients.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The primary role of the Physiotherapist is in the assessment and management of physical impairments or disabilities with the aim of enhancing and restoring functional abilities and quality of life
  • Physiotherapy services will include assessment, treatment, consultation, discharge planning and education to patients, family members/caregivers, and external agencies
  • Works effectively as a member of an interprofessional team, collaborating with other disciplines to provide comprehensive patient care and complex discharge planning
  • Identifies and addresses educational needs for patients and their families
  • Demonstrates commitment to ongoing professional development in order to continue to provide optimal patient care
  • Provides patient care in accordance with all professional and organizational standards
  • Contributes to the academic mandate of the organization as an educator, resource or support for staff, students and members of the academic and professional community

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Registered in good standing with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario (CPO) required
  • Bachelor¿s Degree in Physiotherapy required, Master¿s Degree preferred
  • Must be rostered (or willing to roster prior to the end of the probationary period) with the CPO to perform the following activities: Administering a Substance by Inhalation
  • BLS required (or willingness to complete within probationary period)
  • Experience with assessment of mobility and safety with general medicine patients in an acute care setting preferred
  • Experience in the assessment and treatment of acute stroke patients preferred
  • Excellent communication, critical thinking and interpersonal skills
  • Proven flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent time management, organizational and prioritization skills as relates to patient care
  • Demonstrated effectiveness as an interprofessional team member
  • Demonstrated ability to work with the Rehabilitation Assistants
  • Demonstrated commitment to and involvement with own profession (e.g. professional association) preferred
  • Satisfactory attendance record.
