This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on novel AI models for cancer diagnosis and collaborate with our team under the Direction of Dr. George Yousef, who leads innovative work in the field of digital pathology.

Position Overview:

As a Postdoctoral Fellow, you will be involved in the development and deployment of large-scale machine learning models for analyzing whole-slide images from cancer biopsies. The role will involve working with the latest AI technologies, including Vision Transformers (ViTs), to create diagnostic tools that can improve clinical workflows and patient care. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of researchers, AI scientists, and pathologists while making significant contributions to scientific knowledge.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of advanced machine learning models for analyzing medical images, focusing on digital pathology applications
  • Design and implement ViT-based models for large-scale data analysis
  • Validate and evaluate the performance of AI algorithms in real-world clinical datasets
  • Collaborate with pathologists and clinicians to ensure that the developed models are clinically relevant and usable
  • Contribute to the writing of scientific manuscripts, grant proposals, and presentations for conferences

Qualifications:

  • Education: A PhD in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • Experience: Demonstrated expertise in machine learning, particularly deep learning and medical image analysis
  • Proficiency with Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch, and MONAI frameworks
  • Experience in whole-slide image analysis and Vision Transformers (ViTs)
  • Ability to independently drive research projects and mentor students or junior researchers
  • Strong communication skills, both in writing and presenting scientific ideas

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with clinical datasets and understanding of their complexities
  • Background in medical imaging, deep learning algorithm building, programming and software development

Benefits:

  • Access to Unity Health Toronto's state-of-the-art research facilities
  • Collaboration opportunities with leading experts in AI and pathology
  • Competitive salary and benefits package
  • An intellectually stimulating and supportive research environment
