Position Summary

Dr. Okrainec's lab conducts health services and implementation focused research to improve patient, caregiver and clinician experience, care and health service use for patients transitioning in and out of hospital. Working onsite under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the post-doctoral fellow will oversee a team of research analysts and students on several funded research projects focused on integrated models of care and communication-based interventions for hospitalized patients, caregivers and clinical teams. The applicant will be encouraged to lead and explore areas of research that are within the scope of the lab and apply for grant and award funding among other tasks to support the lab and their independence and success with all skills required as a future scientist.

Duties

  • Leads academic writing for grant proposals and publications and provides supervisory assistance for other members of the team.
  • Leads complex data analysis and the development of analytic proposals including analyzing and interpreting results using multivariate regression, propensity score and other analytic methods.
  • Supports conducting interviews and qualitative data analysis using implementation-based frameworks (e.g realist framework, direct content analysis).
  • Reviewing ethics review submissions and service agreements/contracts across institutions in support of research objectives.
  • Supervision of RAs and assistance with systematic and scoping reviews and maintenance of library of resources.
  • Supervision of RAs and assistance with data verification and chart review when needed.
  • Collaborates with the project manager through weekly meetings to support challenges for all research projects that stem from the evaluation.
  • Review of quarterly financial, annual and end of grant funding reports.
  • Participates in cross-sectoral research project collaborations by supporting stakeholder meetings and shared deliverables.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a PhD in health or social sciences or clinical field within 5 years of start date (with priority to graduate level training in Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Public Health, or Health Services Research).
  • Advanced research knowledge and skills in mixed methods research, including interpretation and analysis of qualitative research with integration/triangulation with quantitative findings.
  • Strong research record with demonstration of proficiency in academic writing (protocols, publications, grants, awards) with demonstrated experience in these areas.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and comfort with public facing roles (e.g. presenting with stakeholders which might include clinicians, health system leaders, and/or interviewing patients)
  • Exceptional organization and time management skills.
  • Experience working with administrative provincial datasets (at ICES, CIHI, other) is an asset.
  • Experience with qualitative improvement or implementation science is an asset.
  • Experience with leadership and supervision of more junior team members and/or students is an asset.
