Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Salary: $55,000 Annually (To commensurate with experience and consistent with UHN compensation policy)

Monday to Friday
Status: Temporary Full-Time (1 year, with option to extend)

Position Summary
The Hodaie Lab is a part of the Division of Brain, Imaging, and Behaviour - Systems Neuroscience which aims to 1) discover and understand the fundamental principles of organization and function of the nervous system in health and disease and 2) translate this understanding into clinical practice. Our group primarily focuses on structural and functional MR imaging in functional neurosurgery, with a special interest in neuropathic pain. We offer an energetic atmosphere that fosters creative ideas and collaborations with world-renowned researchers. We are currently seeking candidates with experience in advanced imaging of peripheral nerves in human and pre-clinical models.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Development of all stages of research project(s) in collaboration with a team of clinicians and researchers
  • Analyses of multi-modal, clinical and pre-clinical neuroimaging datasets (e.g., anatomical, diffusion and functional MRI) for novel neuroimaging/neuroanatomical/neurosurgical research
  • Development of new research lines with potential grant writing opportunities

This opportunity will allow you to:

  • Work in a world-class clinical research environment
  • Present findings at national/international conferences (e.g., Human Brain Mapping)
  • Publish in excellent journals across a number of fields (e.g., Neurosurgery, Neuroimaging, Neurology, Psychiatry), with 2-4 anticipated publications over 2-3 years
  • Actively engage and network with the large Toronto brain science community with one of the highest densities of neuroscientists in North America

The ideal candidate will possess the following characteristics:

  • A neuroimaging Ph.D. in neuroscience, psychology, medical physics, or related fields
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas: Peripheral nerve imaging, diffusion MR tractography and analysis, MR image acquisition, pre-clinical models
  • Strong scripting or programming expertise in one or more of the following languages/tools: MATLAB, Python, R
  • Expertise in one or more neuroimaging software/tools with prior work in image analysis: 3D Slicer, MRtrix3, FreeSurfer, FSL, ANTs, SPM
  • Ability to work independently and deliver on schedule
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Committed to continuous learning and improvement

Qualifications

  • Completion of a doctoral degree (PhD) from a recognized and competitive institution
  • Well-developed computer skills and/or the ability to learn new computer programs for analyzing imaging data
  • Ability to plan experiments and rigorously analyze data, and work collaboratively with various research partners
  • Good statistical analysis knowledge is required
  • Excellent problem solving skills and critical thinking
  • Ability to work independently, and as a team member in a collaborative manner
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including scientific writing skill as evidenced by a strong publication record
  • Ability to advise, guide and mentor students (e.g., summer/graduate students)
