Job Description

Site: Princess Margaret Cancer Research Tower (PMCRT)
Department: Medical Physics
Reports to: Dr. Alexandra Rink, Senior Medical Physicist
Work Model: On-site
Grade: V0:90
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Salary: $53,303 - $90,614 annually (To commensurate with experience and consistent with UHN compensation policy)
Shifts: Day
Status: Temporary Full-time

Position Summary
The position is in a lab investigating various diacetylenes for radiochromic dosimetry of ionizing radiation. Projects involve various aspects of making radiochromic formulations, including addition of non-radiolytic near-IR dyes for optical calibration purposes.

Duties:

  • Stay up-to-date on scientific literature and methods relevant to the project
  • Apply creativity in scientific approach
  • Execute experiments with high degree of precision and robustness, following best laboratory practices
  • Document results of research activities and analyze data
  • Mentor graduate students and technicians in scientific approach and methods
  • Represent an excellent role model for students and staff

Qualifications

  • A PhD obtained within the last five (5) years in chemistry, chemical engineering, or related fields
  • Knowledge of wet chemistry, polymer chemistry, and organic synthesis
  • Experience in thin film deposition methods is an asset
  • Demonstrated excellent publication record of scientific achievement (at least one first-author publication)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong scientific writing and presentation skill
  • Demonstrated record of interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Self-motivated, independent and creative
