The Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) is an arm's length government agency of the Ministry of Education. EQAO contributes to the continuous improvement of Ontario's publicly funded education system. The agency creates and delivers engaging and relevant online curriculum-based large-scale assessments for students that lead to further insights and information needed to support student learning and improve student outcomes.

Teacher applicants to the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) must pass the Math Proficiency Test (MPT), ensuring new teachers hold basic competency in math. The MPT unit is responsible for the design, development, administration and reporting of the test.

EQAO is seeking an experienced Psychometrician to conduct psychometric and statistical analyses of its assessments, focusing on the MPT.

Note: This position is located at 2 Carlton St., Toronto, however alternate work arrangements may be available.

About the job

You will:

• conduct analyses of assessment data, execute quality assurance procedures, and prepare assessment and field test reports;
• provide technical psychometric advice related to the design and development of assessment instruments for assigned assessment areas;
• conduct research on psychometric analytical procedures.

What you bring to the team

Knowledge of Educational Psychometrics and Large-Scale Educational Assessment

You have:
• advanced professional-level knowledge of psychometrics, educational statistics, and statistical measurement and analysis.
• proven knowledge of large-scale education assessment theory, principles, methods and processes;
• comprehensive knowledge and application of psychometric, quantitative and statistical methods and techniques including: Classical Test Theory (CTT), Item Response Theory (IRT), item calibration, score equating, and statistical procedures for dealing with missing data, etc.;
• knowledge and skills with respect to the manipulation and use of database, statistical analysis and data visualization
• demonstrated knowledge of assessment instrument design/development and data collection/validation/analysis systems and processes;
• knowledge of large-scale provincial education assessments, education system monitoring and reporting to support accurate data results.

Research and Analysis Skills

You have demonstrated ability and knowledge to:
• research and analyze assessment data;
• conduct data capture/analysis processes and quality assurance procedures;
• provide advice on test design/development;
• conduct psychometric/statistical analysis of assessment data.

Communication, Presentation, and Consultation Skills

You have:
• demonstrated verbal and written consultation skills to provide technical guidance and advisory services to cross-functional teams on psychometric components of assessment development, implementation, analysis and reporting;
• demonstrated consultation skills to provide information services to external partners on psychometric design, application, and data results;
• proven written communication skills to prepare research/analysis reports, briefings and recommendations;
• excellent interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with internal colleagues and external partners.

• work independently with initiative in a fast-paced environment;
• work effectively as a team member or as a team leader depending on the nature of the project.
