Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensures quality resident and client care through ongoing training and education of all department employees; develops instructional material to ensure that the staff education plan addresses, at a minimum, all requirements related to the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and the Ministry of Labour and monitors the quality of the education provided within the home related to these requirements.
  • Serves as facilitator and advisor to educational and other external agencies, building strong relationships with universities, colleges, schools, volunteers, and other key partners to support the nursing and program department arranging student placements
  • Lead/chair a quality improvement committee within the home supporting
  • completion of the quality protocols and program evaluations with departments
  • Accreditation lead
  • Creates, prepares and presents comprehensive reports and summaries monthly.
  • Manages other assigned projects, ensuring effective teamwork and communication, high quality of work, organizational performance, and continuous learning.
  • Participate in performance appraisals
  • Participate in labour management discussions and performance management
  • Lead staff development committee on a biannual basis.
  • Supports the family and resident engagement in collaboration with the Social Worker and adds support for residents with the BSO.
  • Any other duties as assign by the Executive Director.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 2 years Experience in a leadership role serving Long term care
  • Must have knowledge and/or a strong desire to learn about quality improvement within Long Term Care (LTC)
  • Must be passionate about geriatrics
  • LTC experience preferred
  • Project management is an asset
  • Must be a team player
  • Must demonstrate and possess exceptional customer service skills
  • Familiarity and understanding of electronic health record systems i.e. PCC, RAI/MDS, RUGS, E-MAR, POC tablets is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of LTC industry regulatory requirements and current Best Practices is considered an asset
  • Strong leadership, organizational, interpersonal skills, ability to coach and work effectively with others and an ability to effect change
  • Understanding of Quality Indicators/willingness to learn
  • Ability to work independently and be self-directed
  • Ability to facilitate others with problem solving processes
  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple assignments.
  • Experience in staff education in a healthcare or similar organization.
  • Leadership style that creates learning encourages participation and commitment to organizational objectives and values the contributions of staff.
  • Excellent ability to motivate, lead, train and manage staff in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of occupational health and safety as asset.
  • Knowledge accreditation standards and processes that affect long-term care.
