Job Description:

Position Purpose summary:

The Registered Behavior Analyst provides Applied Behaviour Analytic (ABA) assessment, treatment, consultation, workshops, education and resource support to clients and their families. Additionally, support is provided in both the developmental and the mental health sector with the goal of reducing problem behaviours and enhancing skills. He/she is required to perform his or her duties in a manner consistent with The Salvation Army - Broadview Village core values and ethics, ensure resident/participant safety, and demonstrate customer service excellence.

Accountabilities:

Key Responsibility Area

Therapeutic Services:

  • Conduct behavioral assessments on referral from any/all of the programs being operated by Broadview Village
  • Utilizing a mediator model of service, structure intervention programs for staff to carry out, monitor progress, evaluate effectiveness, and revise plans as necessary
  • Responsible for developing a Behavior Support Plan and signing off as the registered clinician
  • Provide advice and support to any programs within Broadview Village and/or with external partners as directed by the Director of Quality, Risk and Education
  • Support and adhere to Broadview Village's Vision, Mission, and Values
  • Record, maintain, and manage complete and accurate documentation relating to each case in accordance with standards and policies
  • Maintain appropriate personal and professional boundaries with staff, clients, etc.
  • Support the Senior Leadership Team in establishing and sustaining care in a manner that is resident/participant centred and fosters evidence based best practice
  • Maintain a safe and positive living and working environment through compliance with policies and procedures, rules and regulations governing facilities safety and safety in the workplace
  • May facilitate communication in complex care issues to foster positive resident/participant outcomes as required

Workshop and Educational Sessions:

  • Develop and deliver workshops, educational sessions and material within the role's scope of practice and in-line with the philosophies of Broadview Village
  • Monitor and assess effectiveness and relevance of educational programs and make revisions as necessary
  • Keep abreast of emerging behavioral management strategies and best practices and incorporate appropriate ideas into educational programs

Relationship Management:

  • Develop and build a relationship of trust with clients and families, maintaining confidentiality, sensitivity, integrity, fairness, and respect
  • Collaborate with the department heads to assess and review treatment plan options and alternatives, assess trends, address any issues or areas of concern, and find solutions and areas of improvement
  • Collaborate with external resources and programs to identify additional/alternative options for clients and their families
  • Promote a positive working environment with the service providers and Broadview Village
  • Maintain positive communication between Broadview Village and the community

CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT

Governance Boards and Councils:

Internal:

  • Department Heads and Senior Leadership Teams
  • Director of Quality, Risk and Education
  • Social Services Staff

External:

  • Clients and their families
  • Service providers
  • Community and Government programs and agencies

MANAGERIAL/Technical Leadership RESPONSIBILITY:

  • The supervisor of the Critical Response Team directly reports to this position and the behavior analyst to the Director of Quality, Risk and Education. This position serves as a technical leader in providing direction and guidance to staff on intervention programs.

FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:

No expenditure authority but provides technical advice, recommendations and treatment/intervention plans for program approval/adoption

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Carries a cell phone and is expected to respond to calls as required
  • May be required to travel from 31 to 70% of the time
  • May have varying work schedules depending on client/department needs
  • Serves people with behavioural issues
  • Usually works at day programs, group homes, and other community locations

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Degree in Occupational Therapy or Behavioural Sciences; or Degree in Psychology with additional specific expertise in Behavioural Analysis
  • BCBA Certification is required
  • Graduate degree in a field related to Behavior Analysis is required
  • A combination of equivalent experience and education may be considered

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:

  • Depending on education level and Behavioural Analysis expertise, 1 to 2 years' experience may be sufficient for this role. Other degrees (i.e. BSW) would require 3 to 5 years of Behavioural Analysis experience
  • Comprehensive theoretical and practical knowledge of ABA principles
  • Specialized knowledge required for conducting functional assessments
  • Demonstrated, broad-based knowledge and experience working with adults with developmental disabilities, including mental health and/or autism, and a consultative model of service delivery
  • Knowledge of community-based services and systems
  • Knowledge of or experience using an adult education model and crisis prevention/intervention
  • Experience with assessing mediator abilities/challenges and modifying strategies to meet their needs
  • Demonstrated experience working with adults, and participating on an interdisciplinary team
  • The successful candidate must provide an acceptable Police Records Check (Vulnerable Sector Screening)
  • A valid First Aid/CPR certificate is required

Skills and Capabilities:

  • Knowledge and familiarity with computer operations and software applications, including resident/participant records, and staff scheduling
  • Demonstrated skill in leadership, including experience with setting and achieving strategy, goals and objectives; budget control, problem solving, conflict resolution and effective human and fiscal resource management
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills in English
  • Demonstrated commitment to a resident/participant centered leadership style
  • Demonstrated commitment to treating others with respect and dignity
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development
  • Demonstrates relevant understanding of, and compliance with, legislative knowledge of the Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Act, collective agreement and other applicable legislation as required
  • Must have excellent interpersonal communication skills including the ability to mentor and develop staff
  • Commitment to the care of people with differing abilities
  • A collaborative team approach with all managers and staff and creating a working climate that is positive and mutually supportive
  • Supports the Vision, Mission and Values of The Salvation Army's Broadview Village
  • Fluency in French is considered an asset

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $62,673.90 to $78,342.38 with a maximum of $94,010.85.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
