Registered Dietitian Diabetes Clinics (Job ID: 8929)

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The role of the Clinical Dietitian is to provide evidence-based, high quality, specialized nutritional care unique to each individual as part of their medical treatment to improve or maintain health
  • The Centre for Diabetes and Endocrinology serves the needs of adults with Type 1 Diabetes and those with Type 2 Diabetes who require insulin. As part of our inter-professional team, which includes Registered Nurses, a Pharmacist, Chiropodist, Social Worker and our Endocrinologists, the RD works collaboratively with all disciplines to support patients with diabetes.
  • Able to work effectively as a member of an inter-professional team, collaborating with other disciplines to provide comprehensive patient care
  • Contributes to the academic mandate of the organization as an educator, resource or support for staff, students and members of the academic and professional community
  • Identifies and addresses educational needs for patients and their families
  • Demonstrates commitment to ongoing professional development
  • Is committed to, and participates in, program development, evaluation and ongoing quality improvement in the organization
  • Provides patient care in accordance with all professional and organizational standards
  • While the role is primarily an outpatient role in the Diabetes Clinic, the RD may provide support for the Diabetes and Pregnancy Clinic, inpatient diabetes education or other area in the Kidney and Metabolism Program.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have graduated from an accredited and recognized program with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Human Nutrition, or equivalent
  • Must be currently registered and in good standing with the College of Dietitians of Ontario (CDO)
  • Membership with Dietitians of Canada
  • Canadian Diabetes Educator Certification (CDE) required
  • Minimum 2-3 years of clinical experience working directly with patients and families living with Type 1 diabetes or those requiring insulin
  • Current CPR certification
  • Experience with diabetes technology (insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitors) and certified insulin pump trainer
  • Experience working in an ambulatory care setting
  • Excellent communication, critical thinking and interpersonal skills
  • Proven flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent time management, organizational and prioritization skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to and involvement with own profession

Must be willing to work evenings and/or weekends as directed by the Program.
