Job Description

Reports to: Senior Director
Grade: M0:07
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Salary: $102,898-$128,622 annually (Commensurate with experience and consistent with UHN compensation policy)
Status: Temporary, Full-Time (14 month contract)
Closing Date: January 29, 2025

Position Summary

Research Financial Services is looking for an experienced professional to backfill the key role of Financial Business Manager during a scheduled leave. Reporting to the Senior Director, the Finance Business Manager performs a broad scope of activities requiring contract and grant funder knowledge, project oversight and accounting experience.

Duties

  • Oversee the set up and administrative function of the Research Directorate's 6,000+ grant accounts and provide support to the grant applications process
  • Provide appropriate guidance on account and cost centre classifications to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance with regulatory requirements and GAAP
  • Provide financial oversight, tactical business support, and lead the operational planning and forecasting for UHN's six Research Institutes, and multiple lines of business
  • Perform financial review of all large donations to research to ensure adequate consideration for organizational costs and proper set up of account types
  • Deliver exemplary customer service and monitor performance, whilst ensuring business adherence to appropriate financial policies, procedures and practice
  • Drive continuous process improvements to ensure efficient use and stewardship of resources and effective use of technology
  • Develop financial models for allocations of departmental or organizational expenses to Research Institutes
  • Provide leadership and coaching to a highly motivated team of analysts within Research Financial Services
  • Preparation and/or review of financial reports, as required
  • Contribute to the broader Hospital and Research Institute mandates and enable best practices through participation in enterprise wide committees and external groups

Qualifications

  • A university degree in business (or related discipline) from a recognized and accredited educational institution
  • A minimum of five years' related experience in a complex organization
  • Demonstrates strong leadership and motivational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a self-directed manner, as well as effectively in a team environment
  • In-depth knowledge of financial planning and budgeting in a healthcare environment
  • Working knowledge of research funding and grants are an asset
  • Proven experience establishing strong, collaborative working relationships in a complex, multi-stakeholder organization
  • Experience with process analysis, re-engineering and implementing efficiency improvements
  • Demonstrates composure under pressure/stressful conditions and ability to meet multiple and competing deadlines
  • Excellent analytical, problem recognition and problem-solving skills, and change-oriented
  • Adheres to confidentiality policy for sensitive financial and clinical data and information
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, extensive knowledge of Access and Excel, experience in SAP an asset
  • Recognized professional accounting designation (CPA) or equivalent is an asset
  • Familiarity with granting agency processes and contracts is an asset
