Salary: $38.17- $47.71 per hour (To commensurate with experience and consistent with UHN compensation policy)

The Research Quality Integration department supports the UHN research community by identifying risks to quality, and opportunities for improvement, facilitating safe, effective and efficient solutions to enable regulatory compliance, while achieving best practice standards in research at UHN. The Research Quality Associate works with the research community, including scientists, research teams, senior leadership, Research Solutions & Service leadership, promoting leading practices in quality, risk management and responsible conduct of research.

UHN and its researchers are involved in national and international research partnerships and collaborations that facilitate discovery and innovation, increase participant diversity and improve the validity and applicability of study findings. Disclosure and management of these relationships is critical to UHN's ability to conduct high quality research. The Research Quality Associate will support initiatives that ensure that these relationships are disclosed and reported in compliance with regulatory and funder requirements, including assessing relationships for relatedness to funded research.

Duties
The primary responsibility of the Research Quality Associate is to support UHN's responsible conduct of research program, with a focus on relationship management and regulatory compliance. This includes:

  • Supporting UHN's approach to managing foreign affiliations and compliance with the Policy on Sensitive Technology Research and Affiliations of Concern
  • Supporting compliance with the US Public Health Services financial conflict of interest requirements, including assessment of scientific grant applications for relatedness to research relationships
  • Supporting disclosure of relationships and foreign affiliations by UHN's researchers
  • Supporting other parts of the program as necessary (including conducting policy analysis, risk assessments, report writing, developing and implementing training and education, coordinating committees)
  • Assisting in the coordination and support of research integrity activities and inquiry / investigation process, including collecting information, document management, communication, and report drafting in compliance with regulatory and funder requirements
  • Assessing and monitoring of the internal and external research environment, governing legislation, guidelines and regulations to facilitate identification of potential risks or quality gaps
  • Assisting in the coordination and support of risk management activities, collaborating with risk owners to identify, assess, evaluate, plan and monitor risk mitigation strategies
  • Managing projects that are integral to RQI strategic initiatives, including coordinating and conducting research program review activities, and system/process gap analyses
  • Participating in the development and communication of research best practice standards, including delivering effective education, training and support to research programs
  • Internal and external environmental scans and evaluation of research programs, services, systems, tools

Qualifications

  • At minimum, Bachelor's degree in Health Sciences or related field required
  • Master's degree preferred
  • Minimum four years in an academic research environment (wet/dry lab, clinical research)
  • Strong working knowledge of regulatory requirements, standards, issues related to the academic research environment
  • Strong ability to understand and critically assess research projects
  • Outstanding ability to interact with, engage, and build relationships with diverse stakeholders including scientists, researchers, senior-level executives, management, and front-line staff.
  • Strong expertise in business writing including policy, standards, reports, meeting minutes
  • Experience in developing, analyzing, and implementing policy
  • Excellent project management skills, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects concurrently
  • Outstanding collaborative approach and interpersonal skill.
  • Strong critical thinking skills
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
