Salary: $25.98 - $32.48 per hour: To commensurate with experience and consistent with UHN compensation policy

Status: Temporary Full-Time (1 year- renewable)

Position Summary:

A Research Technician position is available in Toronto, Canada, in the laboratory of Dr. Tomohiro Aoki at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, University Health Network; one of the top five cancer research centres in the world. The research focus is basic/translational research in cancer immunology and cancer genomic field in the lymphoid malignancy. The successful applicant will utilize standardized laboratory techniques and procedures in immunology, genomics and molecular biology applications; perform experiments and analysis; communicate and maintain records of experimental data.

Duties:

  • Will utilize standardized laboratory techniques and procedures in immunology, genomics and molecular biology applications including DNA/RNA/Protein extraction, library preparation, immune blotting and flow cytometry.
  • Will perform experiments and analysis; communicate and maintain records of experimental data.
  • Manage and oversee the mouse colony, including breeding, weaning, and maintaining health records.
  • Perform genotyping of mice to identify genetic variations and ensure proper lineage.
  • Assist in experimental procedures such as mouse dissection, blood collection, and tissue processing.
  • Support lab organization by maintaining equipment and supplies and ensuring a clean and safe working environment.
  • Handle inventory management tasks, including stocking necessary reagents and materials.
  • Work onsite five days a week, with the flexibility to adapt to varying schedules as needed.

Qualifications

  • At minimum, BSc in molecular biology, immunology, or related discipline
  • At minimum, 3 years related experience.
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational and time management skills are required.
  • Experience with mice handling and/or colony maintenance (breeding, weaning, ear tagging, injections, bleeding, etc.) is required
  • Experience in basic cancer immunology assays including Handling of single channel and multichannel pipettes, manual counting of cells and nuclei via cytometer. flow cytometry, cell cultures, virus transfection/transduction, DNA/RNA/ extraction, immune blotting, PCR and CRISPR\
  • Experience in vivo assay using mouse including in vivo imaging, iv injection, mouse dissection, blood collection, and tissue processing.
  • Experience in protein purification, characterization, and functional assays
  • Proficiency in use of microscopy to study imaging analyses is a plus.
  • Familiarity with biochemical and biophysical methods
  • Experience with mouse genotyping or willingness to learn
  • Experience with mouse dissection, organ isolation and processing
  • Strong background with Unix/Linux, Perl and/or Python is a plus.
  • Familiarity with genomic/spatial data including single cell RNA sequencing, imaging analysis and NGS platforms and datatypes (FASTQ, BAM, VCF, etc) is a plus.
  • Experience with analysis of targeted, exome or genome sequencing data is a plus
  • A willingness to learn new techniques and technologies is required.
  • Meticulous record-keeping and attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work individually as well as part of a team
