$26.76 - $33.45 per hour (To commensurate with experience and consistent with UHN compensation policy)
Shifts: Monday - Friday
Status: Temporary Full-Time

Position Summary
A Research Technician position is available in Toronto, Canada, in the laboratory of Dr. Donald Weaver at the Krembil Research Institute, Toronto Western Hospital, University Health Network. The research focus is on designing and developing potential therapeutic entities for neurodegenerative disorders such as dementia. The successful applicant will utilize standardized laboratory techniques and procedures in in vitro biology applications; perform experiments and analysis; communicate and maintain records of experimental data. We expect strong commitment, good communication skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment with highly qualified professionals from international backgrounds.

Duties

  • Assisting in the development of new cell-free and cell-based assays.
  • Routine screening of compounds in in vitro and cell-based assays.
  • Documentation and analysis of experimental results and the independent preparation of reports.
  • Review of scientific literature and application to current and future assay development.
  • Monitoring and maintenance of equipment and supplies.

Qualifications

  • BSc or MSc in a biological science
  • At minimum, six (6) months related work experience in a laboratory setting
  • Expertise and experience in standard research laboratory techniques and procedures
  • Experience with protein analysis (ELISA, SDS, PAGE, WB)
  • Experience with in vitro ADME assays is an asset
  • Experience with LC-MSMS work is an asset
  • experience with rodent handling is an asset
  • Detail oriented and well organized
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Problem-solving and trouble-shooting skills; take initiative and solve problems
