Job Description

Hours: 35 hours per week
Salary: $54,818 - $89,053 Annually (To commensurate with experience and consistent with UHN compensation policy)
Shifts: Monday-Friday
Status: Permanent Full-Time

Position Summary
We are interested in recruiting a highly dedicated and motivated Research Technician to join the Kwan laboratory at the Princess Margaret Research Institute. We apply molecular biology techniques to research on human biospecimens, cell and mice models with side effects of cancer treatment, such as fibrosis and lymphedema. The goal of the research program is to develop novel personalized approaches for the prevention and treatment of long-term and late effects of cancer treatment. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Principal Investigator.

Duties

  • Blood sample processing
  • Nucleic acid isolation, PCR, ELISA, western blotting
  • Cell culture
  • Mice handling (including blood sampling and tissue processing)
  • Write and publish peer-reviewed scientific publications

Qualifications

  • Candidates must have at minimum an MSc in Molecular Biology or relevant field of study
  • At least 2 years of experience with standard molecular biology laboratory techniques is required, such as:
    • Blood sample processing (e.g. plasma and buffy coat separation from whole blood)
    • Nucleic acid isolation (e.g. purification of circulating nucleic acids from plasma)
    • Quantitative real-time PCR, ELISAs, Western blotting
    • Cell culture
    • Mouse handling (including blood sampling and tissue processing)
  • Experience with NGS library preparation, bioinformatics, lentiviral transduction, CRISPR gene editing, and flow cytometry are assets
  • Willingness to learn new techniques and technologies (including establishing and optimizing new protocols)
  • Excellent competency in written and verbal communications
  • Write and publish peer-reviewed scientific publications
  • Ability to work independently, accurately, and meet deadlines
