Position Summary

The Senior Director, Clinical Education provides senior leadership to UHN Education and overall responsibility for the UHN Clinical Education Division (including Wightman-Berris Academy, UHN Postgraduate Medical Education, Nursing and all other clinical Health Professional learners), Student Services, Educational Development, Clinical Interprofessional Education and Care, and Library and Information Services.

Duties

  • Develop and advance strategic priorities and operational plans for the Clinical Education portfolio, ensuring alignment with the overall strategic plan for Education and UHN.
  • Lead the integration of medical and health professions clinical education, focusing on the development, operation, and quality of academic support services for learners (students and trainees) to meet UHN's academic mandate of providing exceptional learner experiences.
  • Oversee academic clinical education at UHN, including innovation, scholarship, and partnerships.
  • Maintain and develop strong relationships with external academic institutions and internal stakeholders related to Clinical Education.
  • Provide leadership for the development of collaborative learning for team-based care at UHN.
  • Lead educational development across UHN hospitals to enable all personnel in their educational roles.
  • Provide leadership to Library and Information Services.
  • Work collaboratively to implement and advance Clinical Education Leadership roles and structures.
  • Offer strong leadership in the engagement and innovation of Clinical Education, collaborating with other senior leaders.
  • Advising and guiding the development of new policies, guidelines, practices, and processes within the Clinical Education portfolio.
  • Facilitating collaboration to achieve goals, targets, and performance metrics.
  • Identifying opportunities to enhance workflow efficiency and optimize resource allocation across the portfolio.
  • Building and nurturing strategic partnerships with internal stakeholders, such as direct reports, faculty, staff, and students, as well as external collaborators. These may include local, provincial, and national organizations, such as the University of Toronto, TAHSN hospitals, and academic institutions both domestically and internationally.

Qualifications

  • A Master's Degree in Education or recognized equivalent is required.
  • A minimum of eight (8) years practical and related experience and/or on the job training required.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proven leadership in best practices related to education, professional development, and interprofessional education.
  • Advanced skills in facilitation, curriculum design, teaching, and mentorship.
  • In-depth awareness of trends in education, professional development, and health sciences libraries.
  • Significant experience in medical and health professional education and scholarship.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating education and professional development programs, including interprofessional education and collaboration.
  • Leadership experience in designing clinical education curricula across professions, with a strong focus on interprofessional education.
  • Education-related leadership experience in a multi-site hospital setting (preferred).
  • Knowledge and/or experience in library and information systems (preferred).
