The Senior Research Associate, Evaluation will work in a dynamic, fast-paced and highly-collaborative environment to lead the delivery of high-quality program evaluations and reporting products for Ontario's organized cancer screening programs.

Here is what you will be doing:

  • Lead the design and execution of evaluations and/or evaluation reporting products requiring the appropriate selection and use of rigorous and advanced methodologies

  • Develop and applies advanced epidemiologic, statistical and/or qualitative methodologies to evaluations

  • Design, develop, and implement data collection instruments, such as surveys and interview guides

  • Effectively project manage and develop detailed project work plans, milestones and timelines, provide status updates, and manage issues and risks appropriately

  • Synthesizes complex evidence into accurate answers and actionable recommendations for Cancer Screening clients, and ensures clients have the tools and capabilities to immediately apply these

  • Translate evidence to Cancer Screening clients by developing end products and presenting findings using advanced written, verbal, and graphical communication skills

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on evaluation and survey design within Cancer Screening and across Ontario Health as required

  • Effectively engage, consult and communicate to a wide variety of stakeholders (e.g., Clinical and Scientific Leads, scientists, members of leadership and staff, external partners)

  • Provides on-going status updates, feedback and appropriate reporting on projects to the Group Manager and Team Lead

  • Resolves problems, identifies risks, and escalates to leadership on a timely basis

  • Lead and contribute to research and evaluations conducted within Ontario Health and by external agencies

  • Leads and collaborates with others in developing new tools/methods, processes, training materials, documented programs, and related deliverables

  • Trains and mentors staff in conducting program evaluation, as required

Here is what you will need to be successful:

Education and Experience

  • Completion of a graduate degree (e.g., MPH, MSc, PhD) in epidemiology, public health or a recognized equivalent;

  • A minimum of five years practical and related experience in program evaluation and/or research. Experience leading program evaluations in the health sector is a significant asset.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Demonstrated advanced analytic and interpretive skills

  • Experience with qualitative evaluation or research methodology is an asset

  • Detail-oriented with strong problem solving, critical thinking and negotiation skills

  • Superior and demonstrated communication skills, including listening, written and oral communication skills, and the ability to deliver presentations effectively to a wide variety of audiences

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Ability to work on multiple initiatives and prioritize competing assignments to meet timelines

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in an inter-disciplinary team environment with minimum supervision

  • Comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with a degree of ambiguity

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and statistical software (e.g. SAS)

  • An understanding of Ontario's health care system with particular emphasis on population and public health approaches, theory, and practice would be considered an asset

  • Familiarity with cancer screening or cancer in Canada is an asset
