Senior Research Associate

Researchers at the MAP Centre for Urban Health Solutions (MAP) are seeking an enthusiastic and highly qualified applicant for the full time (temporary) position of Senior Research Associate (SRA) to fill a new position. MAP seeks to improve health in cities, especially for those experiencing marginalization, and to reduce barriers to accessing factors essential to health. The lab focuses on working with community-based research studies related to drug policy, harm reduction and working with people experiencing multiple forms of marginalization.

The SRA will be primarily responsible for improving how community focused research is done through involving community members as full research partners. The SRA will work to ensure that lab initiatives and findings have an impact on policy and care.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Represents the study team as the lab Community Scholar

- Helps to involve community members as full research partners

- Leads independent community-based research initiatives

- Leads knowledge translation activities with communities and policy makers

- Collaborates with communities to build capacity to do research

- Collaborates on writing and submitting research funding proposals

- Holds funds as a principal investigator, as allowed by funding agencies

- Presents at research rounds and seminars

- Attends staff scientist meetings

- Prepares manuscripts and research reports, drafts writing and knowledge translation activity reports for funders, where applicable

- Supervises and mentors trainees

- Collaborates with MAP Scientists

- Liaises with other staff at Unity Health

- Integrates research activities with community partners

- Strengthens links between MAP and community agencies through partnered research

- Leads external meetings with outside contributing research teams

- Assists in executing on project milestones as part of a diverse and multi-disciplinary team

- Assists in writing and revising study documents

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Masters degree or demonstrable equivalent combination of specialized education and experience

- Experience leading community-based research initiatives

- Expertise in community based research methods

- Experience working in with a research team in a hospital or healthcare setting

- Experience collaborating with communities and people with lived/living experience of marginalization

- Experience collaborating with community partners, including service providers and people who use drugs

- Excellent communication (verbal/written) and interpersonal skills

- Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple activities in a timely manner and flexibility to adapt to changing workload;

- Excellent and demonstrable initiative and strong problem-solving skills;

- Able to work independently and as part of a team of community partners, researchers, stakeholders and hospital administration;
