At the Upstream Lab, our research is driven by the desire to promote health equity and address social determinants of health. Our research focuses on four streams: 1) integrating health and social care by addressing social needs of individuals in healthcare settings; 2) population health management; 3) using data to enable proactive care, and 4) conducting trials.

We are seeking a full-time permanent Senior Research Associate to join our growing lab. A successful candidate will have a PhD in a relevant basic science discipline, specifically in infectious diseases, medical microbiology, or a related field. The Senior Research Associate will carry out or support national research projects related to (but not limited to) infectious disease surveillance, emerging and re-emerging pathogens, antimicrobial resistance, treatments and interventions in primary care and outpatient settings, vaccine development and efficacy studies, and diagnostic test. The role may also encompass research on pathogen transmission dynamics, host-pathogen interactions, and public health strategies for disease prevention and control.

Integrated within a busy, multidisciplinary team, the successful applicant will work closely with the PI and Scientists within the Lab. The Senior Research Associate will be guided by the scientists and report directly to the principal investigator of the study.


Duties & Responsibilities:

· Developing and implementing the strategic plan for research activities, designing experiments, research/scientific methods, data collection protocols, and standards necessary to fulfill project scope in consultation with the Director/Scientists.

· Overseeing project implementation including adherence to proposed timeliness for recruitment, data collection, and data entry and analysis.

· Conducting quality analysis and assurance on research operations, methodology, etc.

· Preparing proposals for new research activities, including assisting in the preparation of research grant applications and contract proposals.

· Participating in the writing of research papers, preparation of presentations and publications, submission of research grant applications, report, and manuscripts.

· Guiding and coaching students and/or post-doctoral fellows.

· Overseeing budgets and administrative requirements of research projects.

· Presents at scientific conferences, symposia, and stakeholder meetings both internationally and locally.

· Writes, reviews, responds to, and approves submissions to the research ethics board, and all other required submissions relative to the initiation and conduct of individual studies.

· Independently leads all aspects of research.

· Initiates new collaborations with external and internal stakeholders.

· Conducts insightful interpretation, and analysis of data.

· Contributes and coordinates to academic output: drafts abstracts, journal articles, able to collect and incorporate feedback from other contributors, and able to publish as first or contributing author/co-author.

· Keeps informed and up to date with funding opportunities and new research developments in the healthcare and scientific community.

· Performs other duties as required.


Qualifications

· PhD in Infectious Diseases, Medical Microbiology, Immunology, or a related basic science field

· 3-5 years of relevant postdoctoral or research experience in a basic science discipline related to infectious diseases

· Excellent working knowledge of research methodology and statistics

· A demonstrated track record in research grant management

· A demonstrated track record in grant securement and publications

· Excellent communication (oral and written), interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills

· Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple projects in a timely manner and flexibility to adapt to changing workload

· Professionalism and self-motivation

· Strong problem-solving skills

· Able to work independently and as part of a team

    · Ability to work under pressure and attention to detail
