The speech-language pathologist will work on the Brain Injury Rehab Ambulatory and Spina/Bifida Spinal Cord Injury teams. The position works collaboratively to provide both consultation and direct intervention.

Key responsibilities of the Speech-Language Pathologist:

  • Provides consultation (including prevention), evaluation, assessment, intervention and counselling to clients and families around communication and feeding
  • Works in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team to inform integrated care plans
  • Uses appropriate standardized tests and outcome measures in clinical practice
  • Uses non-standard assessment tools/forms when appropriate
  • Makes appropriate referrals to other services, agencies, etc.
  • Incorporates goal setting in discussion with family/client
  • Adapts approach to changing needs of clients and families
  • Keeps family/client informed of progress and of any changes in plan
  • Adheres to Centre/professional charting guidelines
  • Demonstrates familiarity with current literature, issues and trends of practice
  • Participates in regular quality improvement activities to further refine clinical practice, equitable and efficient service for clients and families
  • Shares new knowledge and best practices with colleagues, students and other professionals within the organization, professional body and community
  • Participate in quality improvement activities to ensure the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment
  • Utilize the teaching/learning process to provide education, both formal and informal, to clients/families, colleagues, students, and other professionals within the organization and the community
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives, supports the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment and advances a culture of client/patient safety through work and daily practices
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology
  • Current registration with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO)
  • Previous pediatric clinical related experience preferred
  • Experience with providing assessment, consultation and therapy for pediatric acquired brain injury and/or spina bifida an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients, families and members of the interdisciplinary care team
  • Demonstrates flexibility and co-operation in dealing with change
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in an interdisciplinary team
