Join our St. Michael's Hospital team as we work to put patients and families at the centre of everything we do, in the role of Speech-Language Pathologist on our General Internal Medicine program. The Speech-Language Pathology Team is a dynamic service across all hospital programs. We are seeking an experienced clinician to provide assessment and management for adults with swallowing and communication disorders.
The successful candidate will provide assessment and management of swallowing and communication disorders to medical/surgical inpatients with complex medical needs including newly diagnosed stroke patients. As an integral member of the multidisciplinary team within the General Internal Medicine program and Medical Surgical Intensive Care program, the successful candidate will report to the Clinical Leader Manager of the General Internal Medicine program. and will communicate effectively with unit team members and the Speech-Language Pathology team. Many opportunities are available for patient/family, student and staff education, and to participate in quality initiatives or practice-based research.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The primary role of a Speech-Language Pathologist is to provide evaluation and management of swallowing and communication disorders. Other activities include:
- Works effectively as a member of an interprofessional team, collaborating with other disciplines to provide comprehensive patient care.
- Contributes to the academic mandate of the organization as an educator, resource or support for staff and members of the academic and professional community.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be currently licensed by and in good standing with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO) for practice in all applicable clinical areas.
- Must hold a Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology (or equivalent).
- Current BLS (or willingness to complete within probationary period).
- Experience with assessment and management of communication and swallowing for medical-surgical patients of various disease presentation, and with tracheostomy tubes is preferred.
- Experience with videofluoroscopy, and holds current certification or is willing to obtain training in Modified Barium Swallow Impairment Profile (MBSImp) training.
- Excellent communication, critical thinking and interpersonal skills.
- Proven flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent time management, organizational and prioritization skills as relates to patient care.
- Demonstrated advocacy, commitment to and involvement with profession preferred (e.g. involvement with professional association, representation on relevant committees).
Must be willing to work evenings and/or weekends as directed by the Program.
