Student, Volunteer Services (Job ID: 9707)

The Volunteer Services Student is a key member of the St. Joseph's Health Centre, Volunteer Services team. Through strong organizational, people and communication skills they will help us better execute our summer program. They works closely with the Operations Leader and Coordinator, Volunteer Services including daily support of summer student volunteers, administrative duties, volunteer scheduling and promotion of summer student events.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Be a team player.
  • Assist with volunteer onboarding, scheduling and supervision.
  • Assist with preparation of materials for orientation and training.
  • Assist with organizing summer student events.
  • Provide ongoing administrative support which includes maintaining and updating filing systems (both physical and electronic).
  • Participate in events as required.
  • Be a "go to" resource for summer student volunteers.
  • Excellent attendance.
  • Comply with the Standards of Performance and Behavior required by the Health Centre.
  • Comply with Infection Control & Occupational Health & Safety policies, practices and procedures.
  • Demonstrate and practice the Health Centre's values of Human Dignity, Compassion, Excellence, Community and Inclusivity in the performance of all aspects of their duties.
  • Ensure efficient and cost effective use of the Health Centre's resources.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be enrolled in or have recently completed a post-secondary degree or diploma program. Students enrolled in a Volunteer Management or Human Resources certificate programs preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong attention to detail
  • Intermediate level of competencies with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Previous volunteer experience in a health care setting preferred
  • Willing to travel to the other sites of Unity Health Toronto (St. Michael's Hospital and Providence Healthcare)
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Proven people skills including the ability to interact respectfully and tactfully with volunteers and staff
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proven problem solving skills
