Consider this exciting and challenging role in the Mental Health and Addiction Programs Branch where we require your strategic expertise and leadership to develop and implement forensic mental health programs.

You will lead inter-ministerial initiatives to improve forensic mental health services and meet provincial obligations under the Criminal Code of Canada, act as principal ministry contact for Forensic Mental Health program issues, and provide team leadership for staff in the Forensic Mental Health Section of the Mental Health and Addiction Programs Branch.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will:

• Act as a primary ministry access point and advocate for Ontario Health, designated hospitals, other ministries, and the Ontario Review Board for setting strategic directions for forensic mental health
• Lead ministry consultation and negotiations to ensure ministry divisions' work together to address forensic mental health needs and achieve integrated programs.
• Chair committees, represents minister/ministry at official functions and participates in inter- and intra-ministerial policy and planning projects
• Provide strategic and operational leadership for planning, development and delivery of programs
• Act on behalf of the ministry to provide issues management
• Provide team leadership and guidance to staff

How do I qualify?

Project Management and Leadership Skills:

You have:
• demonstrated project management experience and leadership skills to lead various projects and work teams
• ability to provide technical direction and guidance to team members, including assigning responsibilities and ensuring quality of work
• experience developing strategies, setting priorities, negotiating deadlines, resolving problems and assessing project performance.
• initiative, decisiveness and issues analysis/resolution skills to anticipate, identify and deal effectively with emerging forensic mental health issues.

Essential Knowledge

You have knowledge of:
• Public program administration and health care system planning and delivery principles, methods and practices
• Health, judicial status and needs of mentally disordered offenders and related models/programs
• Forensic mental health issues and programs
• Legislation, policies and objectives related to the relationship with Ontario Health and the Forensic Mental Health program
• Policy development processes and knowledge of policy and financial approval processes

Stakeholder Relationship and Communication Skills

You have:
• consultation and negotiation skills to achieve consensus on policy issues, influence discussions with stakeholders and negotiate contracts
• presentation skills to prepare and present complex analyses on policy options
• interpersonal skills to maintain relationships with stakeholders and resolve sensitive and controversial issues

Analytical Skills

You can:
• investigate, research and analyze issues and identify implications
• identify and analyze current and emerging trends and directions that impact service delivery and recommend innovative solutions
• analyze information on delivery models and determine cost benefits for Ontario
