Job Description

Union: CUPE TW Clerical
Site: Toronto Western Hospital
Department: Medical Ambulatory Clinics - GIM/TB/ID
Work Model: On-Site
Grade: Q0:57
Reports to: Nurse Manager
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Salary: $28.64 - $29.52 per hour (start rate in accordance with collective agreement requirements)
Shifts: Days - Rotating start times 0800-1600, 0830-1630, 0900-1700
Status: Permanent Full-Time
Closing Date: January, 16, 2025

Position Summary

Ward Clerk practices in accordance with relevant legislation/standards, meeting the legal and ethical requirements of the profession.

Duties

  • Performing reception responsibilities
  • Providing clerical support
  • Organizing electronic and paper information filing system
  • Performing patient administration functions including scheduling and coordinating appointments meetings/events, maintaining written and/or electronic calendar/schedule etc. Coordinating unit administrative functions
  • Ensuring the efficient operation of the unit, within scope of authority
  • Performing other duties consistent with the job classification as required.

Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Completion of a recognized post-secondary office administration program at the certificate level or equivalent preferred
  • Minimum one (1) year recent related clerical experience
  • Experience working in a health care environment an asset
  • Knowledge of medical terminology an asset
  • General knowledge of office practices, processes, and procedures
  • Good data entry/keyboarding skills
  • Excellent organizational, time management and prioritization skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Ability to produce high quality work in accordance with Hospital standards
  • Ability to work effectively and safely when dealing with stressful situations
  • Knowledge of Emergency Assistance Codes
  • Completion of a recognized post- secondary secretarial arts program at the certificate level or equivalent preferred
  • Experience working in a Microsoft Office software environment
  • Experience working in a health care environment preferred
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology preferred
  • Previous on-the-job word processing and spreadsheet experience required; experience working in an Microsoft Office software environment an asset
  • Very good interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
