 Job Details

As a Supply Speech and Language Pathologist at the Durham District School Board (DDSB), you'll help students who have communication and language challenges. Under the guidance of the Senior Manager and Clinical Lead, you'll work with teachers, provide coaching, and be part of a team that supports students with various speech and language issues. You’ll also create and run workshops for parents and staff and design programs for students both at home and in the classroom.

Salary: $87,178 - $106,627/year

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess Students: Evaluate students' communication needs and explain the results to parents and staff. Work with the team to provide the best support.
  • Plan and Implement Interventions: Create and carry out plans to help students improve their communication skills. Coach teachers and work with students, and involve parents to support goals at home.
  • Document and Collect Data: Keep accurate records of assessments and progress. Write reports and ensure everything meets professional standards.
  • Instruct and Guide: Organize and run workshops for educators and parents. Use online tools to share information and get feedback to improve workshops.
  • Acquire Knowledge: Stay current with best practices by attending meetings, conferences, and training.
  • Collaborate with Outside Agencies: Work with community partners to support students. Develop and run specific programs and refer students for extra help if needed.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology or a similar combination of education and experience accepted by CASLPO.
  • Current CASLPO registration.
  • 6 months of supervision by a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist after graduation (as required by CASLPO).
  • Experience in clinical or educational settings with children is a plus.
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license and insurance (travel within DDSB required).

Knowledge and Skills

  • Training in communication development and experience with communication tools.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft and Google platforms.
  • Understanding of evidence-based practices and CASLPO standards.
  • Strong communication skills and comfort speaking to groups.
  • Good organization and time management skills.
  • Ability to work well with different people and groups.

Additional Information

This position requires travel to various locations within the DDSB during the workday.
