Description

The Christmas Support Worker provides support to the Community and Family Services during the Christmas season on a temporary basis. The successful candidate is also responsible for oversight of several Christmas Kettle locations in a given geographical zone area. They organize, direct, and supervise the work performed by Christmas Kettle Campaign Workers. They will also ensure adequate staffing is met prior to and during each shift.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Incumbent may perform all, some, or similar range of duties as below:

  • Assist with processing, unloading, documenting, and sorting donations of food for the Christmas program and assist with preparing donated items for distribution.
  • Assist with pick-ups of food donations from community donors using program vehicle.
  • Assist with set up and take down of Christmas hamper distribution centre.
  • Record statistical data in a clear, organized, and accurate manner.
  • Participate in training/orientation on The Salvation Army and the Christmas Kettle Campaign.
  • Oversee the operations of the Christmas Kettle Campaign. This will include, but is not limited to: providing support in getting kettles to zone locations, ensuring all kettle donations are delivered to secure location at shift completion, kettle staff and/or volunteer orientation, scheduling (and responding to emergency absences), supervision and support, recruitment of Christmas Kettle staff and/or volunteers, fostering and maintaining positive working relationships with kettle sites, retrieval of all equipment/supplies post campaign.
  • Orient and remind staff/volunteers on proper Kettle handling and duties as required.
  • Supervise, support and assign (as required) staff and/or volunteers throughout the Campaign. This may include location visits.
  • Promote, coordinate, and oversee the activities of Christmas Kettle Campaign Worker staff and/or volunteers.
  • Will participate in recruitment of kettle worker staff and/or volunteers.
  • Coordinate the schedule for kettle staff and/or volunteer and respond to emergency absences, etc.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

MANAGERIAL/Technical RESPONSIBILITY:

  • This position reports directly to the Community & Family Services Manager or designate.

FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:

  • Collect donations and petty cash and ensure donations are always kept secure.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This is a temporary contract position for the period of November 4, 2024 to January 31, 2025.
  • This role is based on 40 hours per week, Monday - Saturday, flexibility required.
  • Shifts may include days, afternoons, evenings, weekend shifts, and split shifts, Monday through Saturday. Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is required, as the hours may increase as per operational requirements.
  • Required to wear appropriate Salvation Army identification.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 20 lbs. (11.34 kgs) in a safe manner.
  • Local travel may be associated with this position.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Completed High School or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Minimum of one (1) year of prior related experience working in community-based programs would be a definite asset.
  • Money handling experience is an asset.
  • Strong skills in all Microsoft Office products and good working knowledge and experience with email and internet-based programs.
  • Valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License, personal vehicle required and insurance, current copy of driver's abstract for review and verification that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.

  • Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
