Job Description

The Provincial Department Head (PDH) - Public Health and Preventive Medicine (PHDM) is a unique position reporting directly to both the Department Head of Community Health and Epidemiology within the College of Medicine (CoM), and the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA). The PDH operates in a matrix leadership role that spans the CoM and the SHA, with the goal of achieving Saskatchewan's healthcare and academic missions.

The PDH is a member of the senior leadership teams of the SHA and CoM. They demonstrate strong leadership and work cross functionally within the portfolio and across the organization to support operations. The purpose is to ensure the seamless integration of the quality improvement initiatives and clinical standards direction of a provincial clinical department.

As the Head of the Clinical Department of PHPM within the SHA and of the academic division within the Department of Community Health and Epidemiology for the CoM, this position will provide strategic counsel and consultative services to medical and administrative colleagues. This position acts as a bridge builder between public need, medical training, research, medical practice, and care delivery to mobilize knowledge and affect system performance with the goal of bringing research and education to better patient-centred clinical care.

The clinical department consists of practitioner staff who provide patient care and academic service related to the specialty of PHPM including those physicians designated as Medical Health Officers.

With regard to academics, the PDH - PHPM is responsible for ensuring the provincial mandate for teaching, and is responsible for management of academic financial resources.

Job Qualifications

The new PDH will possess an FRCPC in Public Health and Preventive Medicine, or, with an equivalent level of training and experience, be eligible for licensure in the Province of Saskatchewan and can be based in any Saskatchewan community.
