About the position: The Safety & Training Officer oversees First Responders in outlying communities and arranges training and tracking supplies in preparation for emergencies that may arise in the LLRIBHS communities including but not limited to pandemics, evacuations, disasters, suicides, major accidents, etc. The Safety & Training Officer works under the direction of the Administration Manager and provides certified emergency care training to health staff.

Duties:

  • Collaborating with Managers/Coordinators/Supervisors & the Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority (NITHA) to develop & maintain coordinated Emergency Response/Management Plans in preparation of Health emergency events that may affect LLRIBHS communities;
  • Keeping abreast of activity emergency response activities & provide updates in writing to the Administration Manager;
  • Recruiting & promoting for "First Responder Teams"
  • Planning, coordinating &/or instructing training programs identified by Health Services as Mandatory Safety Training;

Qualifications: Suitable candidates will have minimum one year Certification in the Health-related field, a combination of education & experience may be considered; Preferred Certification in instructor status for PART, TLR, First Aid & CPR, AED, Level C, First Responder or primary care paramedic; Strong verbal & written communications skills; Organizational & management skills; strong computer & research skills; Ability to work with little or no supervision; Ability to work with multidisciplinary team; Public communication skills; Ability to work with key stakeholders & to work as a team player; Ability to speak Cree is an asset; Must have a valid driver's license and able to travel to outlying communities; Must have or be willing to obtain required Certifications for Employer training programs (Return to Service Agreement required).
