Job Description: Anesthesia Assistants participate in the care of the surgical patient through medical directives under the supervision of the Anesthesiologist. This position receives direction from the Manager, Operating Room.

Human Resources Exemption: No

Education

  • Current registration or eligibility for registration in the province of Saskatchewan as a Respiratory Therapist or Registered Nurse with critical car experience (preferred)
  • Anaesthesia diploma (DA)

Licenses

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certificate (ACLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certificate (PALS)
  • Maintains current certifications for endotracheal intubation, peripheral venous cannulation, blood salvaging, arterial cannulation, drug preparation and administration

  • Communication skills
  • Ability to work well both independently and in a team
  • Self-motivation and the responsibility to ensure the standards of quality assurance parameters are met
  • Ability to prioritize duties according to the situation
  • Ability to maintain composure during periods of high stress
  • Provides clinical assistance to Anesthesiologists after normal operating hours and on-call basis
  • Adjust therapies as directed.
