Position Purpose Summary:

To provide Christian based emotional and spiritual care to residents, volunteers, and staff within our sphere of influence.

This is a permanent full time position.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing various chaplaincy duties which include, but not limited to:

  • Plan & coordinate regular sharing circles, chapel services, morning reflections, Bible studies and various groups to address particular emotional or spiritual themes, ie. grief and loss, trauma, identity.
  • Develop and maintain therapeutic one-to-one connection with residents and program participants etc.
  • Participate in development of chaplaincy programming.
  • Develop and maintain connections with other spiritual care providers working in similar settings.
  • Participate as an active member of Regina Waterston Ministries case management teams
  • Conduct funerals and memorial services as required.
  • Respond in chaplaincy role to emergencies and crises, may be asked to lead debriefing sessions.
  • Chart and document in various data management systems.
  • Provide weekly and monthly statistics/reports as required.
  • The ability to provide spiritual care to those who live with a faith tradition that is not one's own.
  • Awareness of and engagement in matters such as trauma informed care, cultural diversity and sensitivity, spiritual matters impacting vulnerable populations.
  • Be familiar with Waterston Ministries Policies and Procedures and ensure they are followed and put into practice. Assist with the development of Policies and Procedures specific to the Chaplaincy Program as necessary.
  • Other job-related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

*NOTE: You may be required to provide validated educational documentation.

Education/Certifications:

  • Completion of a formal post-secondary/college program of two academic years in theology or a related field
  • Must be ordained and have Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) or equivalent.

Experience:

  • At least 1 year of experience in Pastoral Care and /or Chaplaincy preferably in a social services setting as well as experience dealing with mental health issues, substance use, addictions, death, dying, incarceration and family issues.

PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:

  • Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility.
  • Strong understanding of professional boundaries when working with a vulnerable population
  • Patience and ability to deescalate situations
  • Ability to coach and provide constructive feedback
  • Ability to problem solve and make independent decisions within established framework while understanding the impact decisions will have on programming as well as programs around them
  • Ability and willingness to respect, promote, and support the mission, vision, and values of TSA and develop an understanding of the purpose of the Salvation Army in Canada and its implication as related to position responsibilities
  • Strong professional writing skills
  • Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal, motivational, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to deal with internal and external contacts at all levels of the organization in a professional manner.
  • Ability to develop and maintain a team environment; work cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions that enhance organizational effectiveness.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, be reliable and operate in an environment of accountability.
  • Demonstrates experience with Microsoft Office, internet, and keyboarding
  • Understands the dynamics of resident's behaviour with the ability to assess their needs and risks
  • Ability to demonstrate understanding of and empathy toward cultural differences
  • Has skill in understanding the use of authority in supervision and effective intervention in crisis situations.
  • Good interpersonal skills and attentive listening skills.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training.
  • Valid Saskatchewan Driver's License, current copy of driver's abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
  • Screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry is required.

Work setting is at Waterston Centre, Waterston Ministries which is a Residential Facility.

Willingness to work extra time occasionally when required to support requirements within the Ministry Unit.
