Salary or Pay Band: Pay Band 9, $47.458 to $55.087 (5 step range)

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY:

The Clinical Nurse Educator integrates skills and knowledge from nursing theory and principles of adult learning in the provision of direct patient care, clinical coordination, clinical problem solving, education and research for oncology nursing. The incumbent will provide leadership that is visible, pro-active, and promotes the delivery of patient care through the application of practice standards. In consultation with the respective manager, the individual is responsible for assessing learning needs of staff, planning, and implementing and evaluating designated educational activities/programs. The Clinical Nurse Educator will use a consultative approach and research findings to provide support to healthcare professionals as appropriate.

The Clinical Nurse Educator provides development initiatives and leadership in all spheres of nursing: clinical, practice, education, research, and quality improvement.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
  • Bachelor Degree in Nursing
  • Completion of Oncology Nursing Certification [CON(C)] or equivalent. Where this is not complete, the successful candidate is required to obtain certification within two years of date of hire to the position.
  • Certification for Basic Life Saver (BLS)-C
  • Valid driver's license
Experience:
  • Five (5) years previous experience working in Oncology Nursing
  • Previous experience in nursing education an asset
  • Experience in developing programs/resources for staff in the areas of planning, implementation, quality monitoring, and evaluation
Memberships:
  • Licensed with the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses Association (SRNA)
  • Membership in the Canadian Association of Nurses in Oncology (CANO) an asset
  • Membership in Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) an asset
Skills:
  • Understands the nursing process and principles of adult learning.
  • Demonstrated skill in teaching staff.
  • Ability to prepare teaching packages.
  • Communication skills are required to develop and present complex information including written documentation and verbal presentations.
  • Human relations skills are required to develop formal relationships of a therapeutic nature to assist others in achieving their short or long term goals.
  • Ability and willingness to work cooperatively and effectively with SCA staff members and/or external partners.
  • Initiative and independent judgment required to solve complex problems
  • Demonstrates leadership skills.
  • Ability to effectively analyze information, problems, situations, practices or procedures.
  • Proficiency with a variety of computer systems and software applications
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize workload.
  • Self-motivated and able to make decisions independently.
  • Ability to implement change and evaluate program, practice/direction.
  • Ability to travel within Saskatchewan with possible overnight stays.
  • Knowledge of culturally responsive care for First Nations and Métis people.
