Job Description: The Community Dietitian is responsible for assessment of community need, coordination, planning, implementation and evaluation of population based nutritional programs directed towards health promotion and disease prevention. The Community Dietitian is also responsible for provision of consultative , counseling, teaching and education services to individuals and communities that will improve the nutritional status of the population. Practitioners in this service provide support to Primary Health Care Networks and work within interdisciplinary Primary Health Care team in client care provision.

Education

  • Dietetic Internship certificate
  • Bachelor of Science in Nutrition (BSc(Nutr))

Experience

  • Minimum of 1 year experience in the field of community or public health nutrition or equivalent.
  • Experience with chronic disease and/or dysphagia management is an asset.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of health promotion models and strategies, and ability to apply them in the field of nutrition. Knowledge of the program planning process, and skill in program planning and evaluation. Knowledge of human behavior models and models of behavior change, and skill in applying them to effect change. Knowledge of the principles of community development. Knowledge of and sensitivity to the impact of social, economic, environmental and cultural issues on nutritional status. Skill in assessing individual nutritional status and developing/sharing an individual program plan. Skill in communicating nutrition knowledge at an appropriate level of understanding for the audience. Demonstrated skill in oral and written communication, including public relations and the media. Demonstrated skill in organization and management of time and resources. Demonstrated leadership ability. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team. Demonstrated interpersonal skills. Ability to be analytical. Ability to develop creative promotional and educational material/resources. Computer skills.

Other Information

  • This is a community based position providing services in clinic and home settings. Travel required to various community sites, including rural, within the Primary Health Care Networks (Regina). Home base for this position is: 2110 Hamilton Street.
  • Must possess a valid Saskatchewan driver's license.
  • Some assignments may require access to a vehicle for work.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
  • Registered/eligible with the Saskatchewan Dietitians Association (SDA)
  • Registered/eligible for registration with the Dietitians of Canada (DC)
