Job Description: Under the direction of the Director of Emergency, this position involves working with patients presenting with complex traumatic events including sexual assault and domestic and interpersonal violence. The successful candidate would possess the ability to integrate experience, skills and knowledge from trauma informed care, nursing theory and education from an International Association of Forensic Nursing accredited sexual assault nurse examiner (SANE) course or equivalent to provide competent, detail orientated and therapeutic forensic care. The SANE is responsible for performing comprehensive medical legal examinations and providing patient treatment/care to adolescent and adult survivors of sexual assault and interpersonal and domestic violence. It is the SANE responsibility in partnership with the SANE Coordinator to plan, development and implement follow up care for all survivors.

Human Resources Exemption: No

Experience

  • 2 years must include 1 year of Emergency exp within the last 3 years.
  • Minimum two years acute care experience preferred

Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN)

Other Education and Training

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support Certificate (BCLS)
  • Nursing diploma is acceptable
  • Requires adult SANE training accredited by Inter'l Assoc of Forensic Examiners.

Competencies

  • Communication skills

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Knowledge in family violence issues; sexual offending and domestic violence

Other Information

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certificate (ACLS) an asset
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) an asset
  • Registered/eligible with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS)
