Job Description: Under the direction of the Manager, the Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) integrates knowledge and skill reflective of the Health Services model of care and principles of adult learning, in the provision of education, research, and quality client centered care for a defined group of clients and programs. The incumbent will provide visible, proactive leadership and promote the delivery of client centered care through identified education programming. In collaboration with their Manager, the CNE is responsible for assessing learning needs of staff, planning, implementing, and evaluating education activities/programs. The Clinical Nurse Educator will use a consultative approach and research findings to provide support to health care professionals as appropriate. Positions will have specific responsibilities related to specialized client needs and clinical knowledge within designated units/programs. The Educator ensures safe, quality care is provided by staff working in multiple sites in a dynamic and complex grouping of outpatient clinical services including : Ambulatory Care Unit RGH (Procedures, Consultant Clinics, Cast Clinic) and Ambulatory Care Unit PH (Procedures, Diabetic Foot Clinic, Infusion Clinic, Cast Clinic, Consultant Clinics).

Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN)

Experience

  • 3 years experience in clinical area within the past 5 years
  • one (1) year previous experience in adult education
  • Requires experience in: 1) program/resource development related to needs assessment, planning, program design, implementation, and evaluation; 2) teaching adults, facilitation skills, and leading group activities. OR experience
  • preferred.

Licenses

  • Basic Life Support Certificate (BLS)
  • Basic Life Support Instructor Certificate (BLS)

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Demonstrates ability to apply research and theory to practice
  • Ability to work in a collaborative and consultative manner
  • Knowledge of Safety legislation (Occupational Health & Safety & Evidence Act)
  • Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge in learning and teaching principles
  • Knowledge in education and program development, implementation and evaluation
  • Ability to be self-directed
  • Knowledge in adult education principles, methods and tools
  • Demonstrates ability to accept and implement change
  • Knowledge in critical thinking processes
