Job Description

The Al Ritchie Health Action Centre Community Nurse uses a Determinants of Health framework to provide nursing services to community members living within the Central Primary Healthcare Network. Under the direction of the Al Ritchie Health Action Centre Supervisor, who reports to the Network manager, the Community Health Nurse is an integral member of a multi-disciplinary team. The nurse will use knowledge of health promotion, disease and injury prevention, health protection, public health and population health assessment as well as clinical expertise related to broad community nursing practice to address the health needs of community members. This position is expected to develop, deliver and evaluate programs and services designed to meet the needs of community.

Education

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing with courses in community/public health nursing is required.
  • Possession of a valid CPR Basic Life Support Level "C" certificate.
  • Current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS)

Experience

  • Minimum of one year experience in community health nursing is required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of Public Health Nursing and Population Health Promotion theory and practice.
  • Understands levels of prevention and how these are used in promotion, prevention and protection of health.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of multiple health promotion strategies including building healthy public policy, creating supportive environments, strengthening community action, developing personal skills, and reorienting health services.
  • Articulates theory and knowledge related to client centered care and principles of adult education.
  • Demonstrates ability to develop educational programs/resources including needs assessment, planning, design, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Demonstrates ability in teaching, facilitation, and group activities.
  • Knowledge of the importance of culture on health.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous culture and traditional healing practices.
  • Knowledge of health maintenance requirements for normal and at-risk pregnancies.
  • Knowledge of community development.
  • Uses knowledge of the social determinants of health in interactions with clients at all levels.
  • Knowledge of harm reduction principles and practices.
  • Demonstrates application of the nursing process in dealing with individuals, groups or communities.
  • Makes independent nursing judgements based on evidence-based practice and public health principles.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to be self-directed and exercise independent decision-making in a community based environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to demonstrate appropriate level of professional conduct and judgement.
  • Ability to be a member of an interdisciplinary team.

Other Information

  • This is a community based position providing services in clinic and home settings. Travel required to various community sites, including rural, within the Primary Health Care Networks (Regina). Home base for this position is: 1550 - 14th Avenue.
  • Knowledge of Prenatal support/care would be a n asset.
  • Possession of a valid Class 5 drivers license and have a vehicle available for work.
  • Travel allowance is provided.
