Job Description: The incumbent is an experienced, emergency room nurse responsible for guiding post-graduate and undergraduate learners in the clinical environment at both RGH and PH ERs. Reporting Manager, Academic Health Sciences-Simulation and jointly to the Unit Manager, the Medical Nurse Teaching Coordinator (MNTC) is responsible for promoting the Mission, Vision and Values of the Saskatchewan Health Authority in this front line education leadership role. The MNT Coordinator is experienced in adult education and facilitates a high quality of patient care services through the promotion of an excellent learning experience for all medical learners and programs placed in ER.

Human Resources Exemption: No

Education

  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing.
  • Requires a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing.
  • Requires current BCLS.
  • Certification in a medical specialty would be an asset.

Experience

  • Requires a minimum of three (3) years' experience related to the clinical area within the past five (5) years, and one (1) year previous experience in adult education.
  • Requires experience in:
  • program/resource development related to needs assessment, planning, program design, implementation, and evaluation;
  • teaching adults, facilitation skills, and leading group activities.
  • Experience in research activities, quality monitoring and evaluation.

Licenses

  • Basic Life Support Certificate (BLS)

Other Education and Training

  • Nursing diploma is acceptable
  • Psychiatric Nursing diploma is acceptable
  • Bachelor of Psychiatric Nursing is acceptable

Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Assists and participates in the development of the vision and strategic plan for the clinical program that is consistent with the Vision and Strategic Plan of the SHA.Acts as a change agent to facilitate improvements and enhanced client centered care.
  • Supports and encourages the development of critical/systems thinking.
  • Encourages and facilitates the development and functioning of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Workplace facilitator.
  • Good knowledge of principles and demonstrated capacity to effectively coordinate the education and orientation of the new students on the Unit.
  • Demonstrates superior organizational skills and resourcefulness including crisis management
  • Demonstrates critical thinking, problem solving and decision making abilities and the ability to maintain composure under stress.
  • Demonstrates initiative, self-direction, and the ability to work independently, effectively and collaboratively in an integrated multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrates ability to accept and implement change.
  • Demonstrates ability to apply research to nursing practice.
  • Demonstrates strong leadership skills, ability to work as a team member and the ability to establish and maintain positive interpersonal/consultative relationships and communication patterns including conflict resolution in order to work effectively with staff, physicians, and families.
  • Demonstrates commitment to continuing professional development.
  • Communicates effectively with medical learners and teaching coordinators using a variety of methods
  • Maintains current knowledge of other disciplines' scope of practice.
  • Works collaboratively and facilitates teamwork to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Acts as a role model demonstrating professionalism and accountability.
  • Demonstrates self-directed ability to work effectively and cooperatively in an integrated multidisciplinary team.
